Thulasimathi Murugesan added another medal to India’s tally at the Paralympics. The shuttler from Tamil Nadu failed to win a gold medal SU5 event in Paris on Monday, however, she clinched silver for the nation. The 22-year-old loses against China’s Yang Qiuxia in a thrilling two-game match by 0-2 (21-17,21-10).
Earlier, Thulasimathi Murugesan defeated her compatriot Manisha Ramadass in the semifinals, which led Ramadass to compete for a bronze medal. The results were positive as Ramadass defeated Denmark’s Cathrine Rosengren in a two-game match, winning 2-0 (21-12, 21-8).
Another medal in the cabinet for Thulasimathi Murugesan
This is the first-ever Paralympics medal for Murugesan. This year, she impressed everyone after bagging a silver medal at the 2024 World Championships in Pattaya.
Thulasimathi Murugesan has added another silver to her medal cabinet. Last year, at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, she won three medals, including gold, silver, and bronze. She topped the charts, winning gold in the women’s singles SU5. The other two medals came in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles events. Overall in the singles event, she failed to replicate her Para Asian Games success.
