Finding your next online mattress is tricky enough as it is, but it gets even tougher when brands constantly switch up their beds. Companies are always “refining” their lines of mattresses and upgrading designs while cutting costs. In the world of online beds, it’s out with the old and in with the new — but sometimes, a brand gets a refresh right.
Nectar’s 2024 lineup is by far the best collection of mattresses I’ve ever seen from the brand. It now offers six new and improved beds that run the gamut of the firmness spectrum, and the Premier Memory Foam is its mid-tier all-foam offering. In this review, I’ll cover everything you should know about this enhanced foam mattress, including who it’s best for.
First impressions of the Nectar Premier Memory Foam
This mattress was shipped to us for free, and it showed up at our doorstep the same as any other bed in a box — compressed and rolled up in tight, plastic packaging. We dragged it inside, dumped out the contents, ripped off all plastic and watched the bed inflate — tale as old as time.
After the unboxing, we noticed that the bed was much too soft, so we gave it a couple of nights to properly expand. When it was finally time to test the mattress, we found it to have a dense memory foam feel, similar to many Nectar beds of the past. It also was around the same firmness as the previous version of the mattress, offering a nice balance of support and comfort. My initial takeaway was practically anyone could get by on this bed.
Nectar Premier Memory Foam mattress firmness and feel
What does the Nectar Premier Memory Foam feel like?
Similar to the old model, this new Nectar Premier bed has a dense memory foam feel. You get a nice body-conforming sink-in sensation when you lay down on it, but compared to a Tempur-Pedic mattress, it’s slightly less viscous. Compared to that style of bed, the Nectar Memory Foam is slightly more responsive and light. However, I do think it has more of a dense feel when compared to other responsive memory foam mattresses, like AS3 from Amerisleep for instance.
This type of feel is perfect for those of us who enjoy a memory foam mattress that’s not overwhelmingly dense. Being so dense and viscous, sometimes memory foam beds can be difficult to move around on. Here, you get something that’s responsive enough to adapt to your movements while also conforming to your body’s shape when you’re sleeping — it’s perfect for those pesky combo sleepers like myself.
How firm is the Nectar Premier Memory Foam mattress?
Based on our tests, we observed this bed to be slightly firmer than a medium. We’d place it between a medium and a medium-firm on our firmness scale, so it’s still accommodating for all sleep styles, with a slight support edge for back and stomach sleepers. I’m a combination sleeper who tends to favor my side, so I find this bed to be slightly firmer than what I typically enjoy. That said, though, back, stomach and certain combination sleepers should get a lot out of it.
If you want a much firmer style of Nectar bed, the Nectar Classic beds provide much more rigid sleeping surfaces, perfect for primary back and stomach sleepers. If you’re a strict side sleeper who’s in the market for a much softer style of Nectar bed, definitely consider the new Nectar Luxe mattresses. Firmness-wise, Nectar has the whole spectrum covered these days.
Nectar Luxe Memory Foam mattress construction
This is a premium memory foam bed with a relatively simple construction. It’s 13 inches thick and comprised of the following layers:
1. On the bottom, you’ve got a dense support foam to serve as the bed’s main support system.
2. Then, you’ve got a responsive transition foam to act as a buffer between the support and comfort layers of the bed. It even has a Zoned-support feature to help keep your back aligned at night.
3. Above that is the bed’s main comfort layer. In this case, it’s around 2 inches of dense, viscous memory foam.
4. Rounding everything out is a breathable cover with an intricate diamond pattern. It’s designed to help the mattress remain temperature-neutral at night while you sleep.
Nectar Premier Memory Foam mattress performance
Motion isolation
We’d say this bed deadens and absorbs cross-mattress movement pretty well. Since memory foam beds usually perform the best in this category for couples, it’s easy to see why it does great in this regard. It might not be as motion-deadening as your top-of-the-line Tempur-Pedic Breeze bed, but it still gets the job done.
Edge-to-edge support
For an all-foam mattress, the Nectar Premier Memory Foam also has some sturdy edges. I think you’ll find the bed’s hybrid counterpart to have even stronger edges, but when you apply your entire body weight to the perimeter of this mattress, there’s no apparent roll-off sensation. The mattress doesn’t really sag excessively. Instead, you should feel firmly placed along those edges at night. I doubt anyone will be falling off this bed — bad news for bed hogs.
Temperature
As I mentioned, the breathable cover on this mattress will help the bed remain temperature-neutral. It’s not going to actively cool you down, but it certainly won’t warm up on you excessively, either. When it comes to how cold or hot a bed innately sleeps, it rarely has to do with the mattress itself. It often comes down to exterior factors like the types of bedding you’re using or even your pajamas — your bedroom’s overall temperature is usually the biggest player at hand here.
Durability
For an all-foam mattress of a more premium design, I’d say this bed is plenty durable for petite, average and even heavier people. If you’re a much heavier person, I’d definitely consider getting the hybrid version of this mattress since the coils will offer your body type more nightly support. That said, though, this bed should be durable enough to last you for the next seven to 10 years at least.
Who is the Nectar Premier Memory Foam mattress best for?
While this enhanced all-foam mattress could work for a variety of sleep styles, a select few may enjoy it the most. Here’s who we think the Nectar Premier Memory foam mattress is best for.
Sleeping position
Since the bed is slightly firmer than a true medium, it’ll mainly work best for combination sleepers who gravitate toward sleeping on their back or stomach. If you’re a side sleeper who wants more pressure relief from your bed, this might not be the most suitable option for you. Instead, you might want to check out the Nectar Luxe beds. Some side sleepers prefer firmer options, though, so if that sounds like you, it could also be worth considering.
Body type
This all-foam mattress will be ideal for supporting two average-sized people at once. If you’re both on the bigger side, I’d recommend checking out a hybrid bed instead. For singles, you can get by on the Nectar Premier Memory Foam if you’re a bit heavier, but just know you’ll likely get more longterm durability out of a bed with coils on the bottom for support.
If you’re interested in checking out a hybrid bed that’s suitable for heavier people, you don’t have to look far. For this case, I’d consider the Nectar Premier Hybrid instead. It will be a bit softer than the all-foam version, but the coils will provide more support for bigger body types. This version of the Nectar Premier mattress will also be more expensive compared to the all-foam model.
Nectar Premier Memory Foam mattress pricing
undefined
Size | Measurements (inches) | Price |
---|---|---|
Twin | 38×75 inches | $1,480 |
Twin XL | 38×80 inches | $1,949 |
Full | 54×75 inches | $2,546 |
Queen | 60×80 inches | $2,223 |
King | 76×80 inches | $2,668 |
Cal King | 72×84 inches | $2,668 |
Being more of a premium, all-foam offering, it’s up there in terms of price. Keep in mind, though, that this mattress pricing is before a discount is applied, which brings it down considerably. Year-round, you can usually expect to pay $950 for the queen size.
Considering the level of quality that you’re getting here, I’d say that’s a super reasonable price point. For reference, the original Layla mattress is also priced around this range after a discount for the queen size, and I’d say this Nectar mattress is comparable quality-wise.
Trial, shipping and warranty
Nectar backs this bed with some of the most generous policies found within the online mattress space. Its beds ship to you in a box for free, and once it’s in your possession, you get a 365-night trial period to try it at home risk-free. If you happen not to like it within that time frame, you can return it for free. On the other hand, if you decide to keep it, you’re backed by a forever warranty. Just be sure to use the right foundation for the bed. Otherwise, you could void your bed’s warranty.
How does Nectar Premier Memory Foam compare to other mattresses?
Nectar Premier Memory Foam vs. Nectar Premier Hybrid
These are now the mid-tier mattresses within Nectar’s lineup. Both feature a very similar dense memory foam feel and range around a medium. However, they are slightly different in terms of specific firmness and construction. The Premier Hybrid obviously has support coils, whereas the Premier Memory Foam has dense foam for support. This makes the Hybrid version more supportive and durable for heavier people longterm. Additionally, the Premier Hybrid is also slightly softer at a proper medium, whereas the foam version is between that and a medium firm. Also, if you’re looking for a more affordable option, the Premier Memory Foam is the clear winner.
Nectar Premier Memory Foam vs. Casper Dream Hybrid
When it comes to comparing two of the most popular mid-tier options from Nectar and Casper, there’s a lot to consider. Firstly, there’s a major difference in feel. The Nectar Premier Memory Foam has a pronounced memory foam feel, while the Casper Dream Hybrid feels more neutral overall. They’re also much different in terms of construction. The Casper Dream is a hybrid mattress with coils, meaning its more appropriate for supporting heavier people compared to the Nectar Premier Memory Foam. Even though the Premier Memory Foam has some lumbar support, the Casper Dream Hybrid has a targeted Zoned-support system to help mitigate back pain. When it comes to price, though, you’ll be saving a lot more by going the route of Nectar here.
The final verdict
Compared to the previous version of the all-foam Nectar Premier, I’d say this new model is a major improvement. I think it checks all of the boxes when it comes to an accommodating memory foam mattress — and it looks much nicer to boot.
If you want your bed to have that responsive style of memory foam feel, you enjoy a slightly firmer profile and you want a decent value for the quality of bed you’re getting, it’s definitely worth checking out. And hey, it’s nice to know that if you don’t like it, you’re bolstered by some of the best policies in the online mattress space.
