There are a huge variety of panels to look forward to at San Diego Comic-Con. The event, which has been held annually since 1970, takes place at the San Diego Convention Center in Southern California. Its primary focus is comic books and the science fiction and fantasy genres, though over the years it has expanded to include more and more pop culture topics and subgenres, ranging from horror to cult to prestige drama and beyond. In 2024, the convention is set to run from Thursday, July 25, through Sunday, July 28, with Preview Night taking place on Wednesday, July 24.

In addition to screenings, autograph booths, artist booths, and stalls on the convention floor representing various publishers, studios, and other companies, there are a multitude of San Diego Comic-Con panels running throughout the course of the event. The panels that expect the biggest crowds typically run in Hall H, which has become an iconic location for playing host to some of the biggest announcements in recent pop culture history. However, there are a multitude of other rooms running engrossing panels that are sure to abound with special guests and major reveals.

1 Paramount Animation and Hasbro Entertainment: Transformers One

Thursday At 11:45 A.M. In Hall H

The first Hall H Comic-Con panel of the year follows one of the biggest live-action franchises returning to its cartoon roots with the animated movie Transformers One. In true Comic-Con fashion, the panel – which features stars Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Keegan-Michael Key along with other key figures behind the movie – will showcase exclusive footage promoting the upcoming release, which premieres in theaters on September 20.

2 Todd McFarlane Talks Spawn Movie, Comics, and More!

Thursday At 12:30 P.M. In Ballroom 20

Another Thursday Comic-Con panel to watch out for is Image Comics President and co-founder Todd McFarlane’s showcase of his work. This panel should be especially exciting because the new movie adaptation of his iconic comic Spawn has been in production hell since 2015. Though the latest update on the project gave it a 2025 release date, not much more is known about its progress at the time of writing, though that could quickly change come Thursday afternoon.

3 Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Thursday At 2:15 P.M. In Hall H

After becoming a smash hit on Disney+, the Rick Riordan adaptation Percy Jackson and the Olympians is getting pride of place in Hall H at 2024’s Comic-Con. The panel, which is moderated by Hades himself, Jay Duplass, will include the entire trio at the center of the Greek mythology-inspired show (namely Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri), among others. While season 2 has not yet begun filming, there may be some major announcements on the way ahead of production.

4 Behind the Action of Peacock’s Gladiator Epic Those About to Die

Those About to Die, the swords-and-sandals epic based on the same nonfiction book that inspired Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, has become one of the buzziest Peacock shows of the year. Now, attendees can learn all the secrets behind the making of the show from members of the cast and crew including Independence Day director Roland Emmerich (who helmed five of the show’s 10 episodes) and Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon.

5 What We Do in the Shadows’ Farewell Tour Kick-Off

Thursday At 3:30 P.M. In Hall H

While it may be difficult to bid farewell to the beloved FX comedy based on the vampire mockumentary of the same name, the What We Do in the Shadows panel should send off the beloved show in style. Stars Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Mark Proksch, and Kristen Schaal will be on hand to share behind-the-scenes insights along with two of the show’s executive producers. The panel will also include a screening of an episode from the upcoming sixth and final season.

6 Salaam, Fandom! Dune, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Islam

Thursday At 3:30 P.M. In Room 26AB

This panel moderated by State University of New York’s Dr. Shamika Mitchell will explore the connection between Islam and the iconic science fiction novel Dune, as well as its film adaptations, which include the 2024 mega-hit Dune: Part Two. With the new movie conquering the box office and holding the title of No. 2 release of the year so far, the timing is perfect to explore the influences behind the source material.

7 35th Anniversary Kiki’s Delivery Service

Thursday At 6:00 P.M. In Room 25ABC

This celebration of the 1989 Studio Ghibli classic Kiki’s Delivery Service should be a can’t-miss experience for anime fans. Featuring the company’s former production coordinator Hirokatsu Kihara, the panel includes a showcase of original artwork from the making of the film, which is now a cornerstone of the iconic animation studio behind such classics as Spirited Away after becoming their first release to be a first-run theatrical success.

8 How Parody and Remakes Enhance the Film Industry

One of the most intriguing Friday Comic-Con panels doesn’t even take place at the convention center, but rather the nearby San Diego Central Library. Led by Nothing New: A Remake Podcast‘s Andrew Linde and Justin Quizon, this panel discussing the influence of parody and remakes on the entertainment industry includes Vera Drew, whose recent film The People’s Joker had a long journey to the screen amid well-publicized rights issues.

9 Into the Whoniverse: A Doctor Who Panel

Friday At 12:30 P.M. In Hall H

One of the centerpiece Hall H panels of Friday explores the latest installment of the long-running British sci-fi series Doctor Who by bringing on three of the major figures behind its newest season, namely stars Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson alongside iconic returning showrunner Russell T Davies. The panel will also include an exclusive sneak peek, potentially involving footage from the upcoming special “Joy to the World” or the impending season 15.

10 Collider Ladies Night Live with Perri Nemiroff

Perri Nemiroff, who is also moderating other panels throughout the convention, will lead a vibrant conversation with a group of women who are leading lights of the entertainment industry. This includes modern scream queen Melissa Barrera (Scream, Scream VI, Abigail), and Love Lies Bleeding star Katy O’Brian, whose notable franchise appearances include roles in The Mandalorian, Twisters, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and the upcoming Mission: Impossible 8.

11 Queer Horror

Friday At 2:00 P.M. In Room 4

Filmmaker and queer horror luminary Michael Varrati, who co-hosts the podcast Midnight Mass with drag icon Peaches Christ, will lead a conversation about the LGBTQ+ perspective on the horror genre. Panelists include multiple figures from every aspect of the industry, including Queer Horror: A Film Guide author Sean Abley, novelization writer Armando Munoz, and multiple people involved in the Shudder documentary miniseries Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror.

12 The Bold Voice of Contemporary Horror

Friday At 3:30 P.M. In Room 5AB

Perfectly timed to be a chaser for the Queer Horror panel, this panel about the best and brightest in the contemporary horror genre includes several notable figures from recent hits including M3GAN screenwriter Akela Cooper and Late Night with the Devil star David Dastmalchian. In addition to a lively discussion, this panel will provide a sneak peek at an as-yet-unnamed project or projects as well as a special gift sponsored by the upcoming Demi Moore body horror movie The Substance.

13 Dexter: Original Sin

Friday At 5:45 P.M. In Ballroom 20

One of the buzziest upcoming projects in television is Dexter: Original Sin, the second spinoff from the iconic serial killer drama which stars The OA‘s Patrick Gibson in the title role as a younger version of Michael C. Hall’s legendary television character. While the full roster of cast and crew panelists has not been finalized, the prequels’s ensemble features a cavalcade of stars that also includes Christian Slater, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Patrick Dempsey.

14 Star Trek Universe

Saturday At 1:45 P.M. In Hall H

One of the most robust multimedia science fiction franchises of all time, Star Trek is being celebrated in many of its numerous iterations with this Hall H panel. The jam-packed panel will include cast and crew from both Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and the animated show Star Trek: Lower Decks as well as the upcoming Michelle Yeoh and Omari Hardwick-led Paramount+ TV movie Star Trek: Section 31.

15 The Penguin Panel

Saturday At 4:45 P.M. In Hall H

Perhaps the biggest DC-hosted panel of the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con is the one promoting the upcoming Colin Farrell-led spinoff from The Batman, titled The Penguin. While Farrell will only be able to attend virtually, the in-person panelists include a variety of stars and leading behind-the-scenes figures including Cristin Milioti and executive producer Matt Reeves, the director of The Batman as well as other memorable genre movies such as Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

16 Anne Rice Universe: Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire and Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches

This massive panel will see the stage overflowing with the cast and crew behind the interrelated AMC horror shows Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches, both of which are adapted from the works of novelist Anne Rice. Stars in attendance include Interview‘s Sam Reid (Lestat), Delainey Hayles (Claudia), and Assad Zaman (Armand) as well as Mayfair Witches‘ Alexandra Daddario (Rowan), Harry Hamlin (Cortland), and Ben Feldman (Lark).

17 Marvel Studios

Saturday at 6:00 P.M. In Hall H

The Marvel Studios panel is usually a centerpiece of any Comic-Con, and 2024’s should be no different, especially considering that it is happening during the opening weekend of Deadpool & Wolverine. While no guests beyond president Kevin Feige have been announced, it seems possible Chris Hemsworth is slated to make a guest appearance (among many others), considering he will already be on site for the Transformers panel. Attendees can expect big surprises, major announcements, and possibly progress updates on upcoming Marvel projects such as Thunderbolts, Captain America: Brave New World, and the Fantastic Four.

18 X-Men Fandom Panel Celebrating X-Men ’97

Sunday At 1:00 P.M. In Room 6BCF

The continuation of the iconic X-Men: The Animated Series has become one of the most talked-about Marvel properties of the year across social media. Naturally, it is being celebrated with a panel at Comic-Con. In fact, this Fandom panel featuring figures including voice actors Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), and Holly Chou (Jubilee) is the third such panel of the convention, after Saturday’s X-amining the X-Men: The Psychology of X-Men ’97 and Sunday morning’s World of X-Men ’97 and X-Men: TAS Animation.

19 Power Rangers: The Past, Present, and Future of the Franchise

This Sunday afternoon panel celebrates one of the most enduring science fiction properties of the modern age, the Power Rangers franchise. The Ben Kliewer​​​​​​​-moderated panel includes a wide roster of figures from throughout the history of the series, including original Black Ranger Walter Jones alongside Tracy Lynn Cruz, Chris Khayman Lee, Davi Santos, Blake Foster, Peter Adrian Sudarso, and Selwyn Ward. In addition to discussing their behind-the-scenes history, they will speculate about the future of the franchise.

20 Manifest: Enter the Glow One More Time

Fittingly, one of the final panels of Comic-Con is wishing farewell both to the convention itself and the science fiction thriller series Manifest, which was able to live a second life before going off the air. The mysterious drama was cancelled by NBC after season 3, but Netflix revived it for a fourth and final season so the story could be told to its proper conclusion. This panel involves superfans of the show as well as its creator Jeff Rake.
