What Anime Character You Are Based On Your Enneagram Type?

Summary

  • The Enneagram system classifies personalities into 9 types based on motivations and coping strategies.
  • Manga and anime authors take great care and attention when crafting the personalities of their characters, adding a deeper level of intimacy between fans and their favorites.
  • Characters, such as Megumi from Jujutsu Kaisen, embody Enneagram types through their actions, motivations, and approach to problem-solving.

Manga and anime creators take great care and attention when crafting the characters that populate their work, including specific details like birthdate, blood type, and favorite food that hint at the character’s personality and allow fans to connect with them on a deeper level. Through these carefully-defined personalities, the characters’ Enneagram type can be interpreted and evidenced by actions taken during their story arc. This intimate knowledge cultivates a devoted fan base and allows each reader to personally identify with some of the most iconic figures in anime.

The Enneagram is a personality classification system by which nine distinct types are determined by a person’s main motivation in life, and the coping strategies they employ to overcome obstacles in pursuit of those motivations. The expression of one’s Ennegram type depends on the health of their emotional development, and fluctuates based on their “wing,” a secondary personality trait.

Due to the nuance of the Enneagram system, the concept can be difficult to understand, but there are characters from some of the most recognizable anime in the world, like Jujutsu Kaisen and Naruto, that can help identify and understand the nine Enneagram archetypes.

Although he’s constantly improving himself and the world around him, guided by an intrinsic sense of morality, he tends to worry about making a mistake and will do anything to avoid harming those around him.

In episode #23, “The Origin of Obedience, Part 2”, Megumi and a special grade cursed spirit bearing the power of one of Sukuna’s fingers face off in a life-or-death battle under a bridge. The young Jujutsu Sorcerer initially chooses death, planning to sacrifice himself by summoning a curse powerful enough to defeat his enemy before it can harm Yuji and Nobara. Tanjiro never wanted to be a hero, but in episode #1, “Cruelty”, his family are massacred by the Demon King, Muzan, and the teenage boy rises to the occasion in order to protect his only remaining sister.

After training to become a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tanjiro becomes the first person to challenge the Demon King in centuries. His revenge mission is a thrilling adventure that introduces him to kindhearted people in need who appreciate his heroic deeds and give him the praise a Helper craves. Though Tanjiro is patient when others disrespect him, he is quick to cut down anyone who abuses his loved ones.

Sailor Moon’s Minako Aino, also known as Sailor Venus, shines as the driven, success-oriented Achiever archetype. As a Three, Minako is confident and image-conscious, serving as the de facto leader of the Sailor Guardians, and dreaming of becoming a world-famous idol one day. She pursues her dream throughout the series by auditioning for acting, dancing, and singing roles in order to gain praise and recognition for her talents.

Minako most-exemplifies an Acheiver in episode #78, of the original anime “Venus: Minako’s Nurse Mayhem”, when an agent of the evil Black Moon Clan unleashes a flu virus on the city, leaving Sailor Venus to save the day by herself. Nurse Minako visits each of her friends, providing value as a caregiver, but often making her patients’ circumstances worse. Ever the overworked Three, Sailor Venus tracks down the enemy responsible for the virus and defeats it with the help of her rehabilitated allies.

Enneagram type Four is the Individualist, and as the name would imply, it’s the rarest of the nine types. Sanji, the Straw Hat chef in Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, is an Individualist, masking deep personal trauma with his nonchalant demeanor. Fours yearn to express their individuality by displaying creativity, which Sanji does through the culinary arts, filling a unique and indispensible role among his crew of pirates.

Episode #21, “An Unexpected Guest! Sanji’s Food and Gin’s Grace”, is the first introduction to Sanji, as he’s working as an assistant chef at a restaurant. When a starving pirate named Gin is kicked out of the restaurant, unable to pay for food, Sanji prepares a seafood risotto for him. His secretive nature and skillful perception reflect his upbringing in the anime’s infamous family of assassins, the Zoldycks. Killua shares his best friend Gon’s curious nature, but approaches their adventures with more strategic and creative tactics than his impatient friend. Throughout the series, especially during the Chimera Ant arc, Killua’s internal monologue provides some of the most compelling insights, exemplifying the Investigator’s keen perception and tendency to self-isolate.

Episode #24, “The Zoldyck Family” centers around the titular family’s doubt about Killua’s competency as a cold-blooded killer. Believing the affection Killua has for Gon is clouding his bloodlust, Killua’s mother and brothers keep him captive in their family estate’s dungeon in order to separate the two. This plays into the Five’s fear of disbelief in their abilities, but Killua’s steadfast insistence on forging his own path in life displays the health of his emotional development.

Shinji is often paralyzed by indecision, distrusts those around him, and lashes out, but he just wants to feel safe and secure as part of a community. In the film remake, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, Shinji has been defeated on the battlefield by the Angels, and degraded by his peers, eroding his will to live. Masashi Kishimoto’s anime, Naruto, features a large cast of ninjas with wide-ranging personalities and motivations. While the plot revolves around the orphan Naruto, learning to wield his innate power to defeat a secret order of evil ninja, he wouldn’t be successful if not for his ally and eventual wife, Hinata, the Peacemaker. Optimistic and level-headed, the lilac-eyed Hinata is a stabilizing force that grounds the protagonist and inspires him to keep fighting no matter what.

Nines are natural pacifists, which Hinata’s warrior family resents her for during her childhood, and that conflict instills serious self-doubt within her. During a ninja training exam in episode #46, “Byakugan Battle: Hinata Grows Bold!” the young girl must face off against her cousin in battle, testing the limits of her passive nature. Cousin Neji Hyuga taunts her and preys upon her insecurities, but Naruto’s cheering builds Hinata’s inner confidence, allowing her to finally fight back.
