Details about Daredevil: Born Again, have been revealed, with news about the MCU show’s cast, release info, and more being reported. The original Daredevil television series premiered on Netflix in 2015 and followed Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) as he learned to balance his life as a lawyer and as Daredevil. This was followed by two more seasons before being abruptly canceled in 2018 – which came as a surprise, as the show had high viewership and was critically acclaimed. Eventually, the series was brought onto the Disney+ streaming platform as the rights were reverted back to Marvel, which then gave the MCU a chance to create Daredevil: Born Again.

There was clearly a commitment to Cox’s version of Daredevil because Murdock began appearing in MCU properties in small roles, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home. Murdock cameos as both Peter Parker and Happy Hogan’s attorney. The lawyer continued his legal duties in two episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, becoming a romantic interest and friend to Jennifer Walters. Vincent D’Onofrio also reprised his role as Kingpin in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. These cameos have all but ensured that the Daredevil: Born Again cast will feature some interesting appearances, and will be a significant part of the MCU timeline overall.

Daredevil: Born Again Latest News

The latest news regarding Daredevil: Born Again was revealed at the Marvel section of D23’s Entertainment Showcase, which covered a series of upcoming MCU releases. For Born Again, the Showcase included an exclusive trailer for the series, which unveiled that the Marvel villain Muse will feature in the story, giving Daredevil no doubt another antagonist to face off against in the course of the MCU plotline.

The D23 footage also showed that Ms. Marvel’s father, Yusuf Khan, will feature in Daredevil: Born Again – raising the possibility for Kamala herself to appear, since her home of Jersey City isn’t far away. Finally, the footage gave a glimpse at several different Daredevil masks still in the hero’s possession, raising some real potential for a range of hero costumes to make their appearances across the course of Daredevil: Born Again.

Other than this, the most recent news regarding Daredevil: Born Again concerns its release date, which was amended in May 2024 after a long period wherein the show had an unspecified release date. Daredevil: Born Again season 1 will be premiering in March 2025, though it’s not currently clear if the entire series will release shortly alongside it, or if the show will follow a more conventional weekly release pattern, akin to the schedule for X-Men ’97 season 1.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 has also been confirmed prior to the release of the first season, which is in line with prior discussions about the intention to ensure that the franchise is focused on its biggest heroes and stories. Approving two seasons for the show seems a pertinent move given Daredevil itself ran for three well-received seasons, and giving the MCU story a more long-format way to approach things ensures no aspect of Daredevil’s solo show debut feels rushed or leaves important things unsaid or explored.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the MCU scrapped the first version of Daredevil: Born Again, and fired its main writers as well as the directors for the rest of Born Again season 1. This appears to be in part so that major revisions can be made to the series before its release, as much of the initial creative team for Daredevil: Born Again were let go, with The Punisher show director Dario Scardapane reportedly being the new showrunner for the series.

Daredevil: Born Again Renewal Confirmed

With Daredevil’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home – and Kingpin appearing in 2021’s Hawkeye – speculation as to whether the Man Without Fear would get a new show arose. While confirmation arrived in May 2022, more information was then released at July 2022 SDCC, where it was announced that the show would be titled Daredevil: Born Again and would be produced by Marvel Studios.

Daredevil: Born Again Release Date

After a series of delays due to production complications ranging from the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes to the reconfiguring of the show after major staff alterations, Daredevil: Born Again season 1 will premiere in March 2025, as per a May 2024 announcement – though a weekly release schedule would mean the show could also veer into April and May of 2025. Born Again is currently one of two MCU shows announced for 2025, with the long-anticipated Ironheart series also set to air in the same year.

Though this has spelled a long-term production process for Daredevil: Born Again, it’s also one that proves promising for the show and its long-term impact. Netflix’s Marvel shows have increasingly been established as part of the mainline MCU canon in recent history, and between this and the restructuring of how the franchise approaches its shows, it seems Daredevil: Born Again may get to avoid many pitfalls that prior MCU series struggled with. With hype for Charlie Cox’s solo series return so high, ensuring the quality of its overall story is imperative, and these changes seem best suited for its success.

Daredevil: Born Again Cast

The Daredevil: Born Again cast has many exciting additions, but perhaps none as exciting as its main stars, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who will be returning as Daredevil and Kingpin respectively. The duo are by far the only Netflix show characters shown to be returning in the series, as – after initially appearing to not be in the new show or MCU – Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll have also been shown as reprise their roles as Foggy and Karen in the upcoming release.

Marvel’s Netflix show iteration of The Punisher is also set to be reprized by Jon Bernthal, and – in one of the more unexpected cast reveals for Daredevil: Born Again – Wilson Bethel will be returning as Benjamin Poindexter, allowing him to capitalize on the original show’s story, which saw him seemingly become Bullseye in the final leg of the overall series. Though the character of Vanessa Fisk will also be reappearing in the show, she will instead be played by Sadrine Holt, instead of the prior casting which saw Ayelet Zurer play the role during all three seasons of Daredevil.

The new additions to the Daredevil: Born Again cast are also decidedly promising. The son of The Many Saints of Newark and late legendary actor James Gandolfini is also joining Daredevil: Born Again’s cast, and though Michael Gandolfini’s character has yet to be disclosed, his early attachment to the project could mean it’s a significant role.

According to Deadline, Severance‘s Nikki James has also recently been announced as attached to the show in an undisclosed role. Genneya Walton was another addition to the cast in more recent months, with the reports that her character is a journalist leading to theories she’ll be tied to Daredevil‘s Ben Ulrich.

Daredevil: Born Again Plot Details

Disney Studio’s D23 description of Daredevil: Born Again states that, “Marvel Television’s “Daredevil: Born Again” catches up with Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, and his nemesis, Wilson Fisk, who’s pursuing his own political endeavors in New York.” This is seemingly in line with series lead Cox previously revealing that the 18-episode show will have increased focus on Daredevil’s legal career – though this may have been minimized after the restructuring of the show.

Echo’s ending teased this storyline by showing Kingpin preparing to try and become New York City mayor. This seemingly leads directly into Daredevil: Born Again will cover, as Matt Murdock is unlikely to sit idly by while his arch nemesis looks to consolidate yet more power over the city and people Daredevil seeks to protect. The ending also has ignited more theories about Daredevil and Spider-Man joining forces either in Daredevil: Born Again or by having the show lead into Spider-Man 4, since Peter Parker would also be invested in not letting a villain gain control of his home city.

One especially intentional hint at what Daredevil: Born Again may be about comes from its title, as there is a 1986 comic book arc for Daredevil called “Born Again”. A few elements of the arc were adapted for the Netflix series, so Disney showrunners may be interested in the continuity, though whether the comic story will be part of the MCU series is currently unconfirmed.

The comic series details Murdock’s personal and professional ruin at the hands of Kingpin, and then tracks how he gets his life back to normal. This would be a down-to-earth plot that would also give the Disney+ series the chance to portray an origin story in a different way, while also ensuring audiences don’t feel like his initial show origins are being entirely rewritten for the MCU.

Daredevil: Born Again Teaser Trailer Details

While the general public has not yet been able to see a Daredevil: Born Again trailer, exclusive footage has been unveiled now more than once, with the Marvel section of D23’s 2024 Entertainment Showcase panel providing the latest look at the upcoming MCU series. The trailer features a range of familiar and new faces, showing Daredevil and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher arguing, the return of Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, and Benjamin Poindexter- perhaps better known as Bullseye – being held in prison.

The D23 footage also gave audiences a look at five different Daredevil masks, suggesting some exciting costume reveals may be in store for fans, and unveiled that the Marvel villain Muse will feature in the Born Again story. Given Muse’s powers make him almost impossible to perceive – and given he’s a twisted serial killer dedicated to his “art” – the character is sure to be a throughoughly fascinating addition to the series and the greater MCU.

Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk also have a conversation in the preview. As covered by ComicBookMovie, the interaction sees Fisk tell the lawyer that, “Sometimes, peace needs to be broken. Chaos must reign.”, with Murdock responding by telling Kingpin, “It does seem like we really do understand each other, so if you step out of line, I am gonna be there.” This further supports the idea that the story will see Daredevil try to stop Kingpin’s bid to be mayor, as the conversation makes especial sense if this is the context in which they are speaking.

A teaser trailer was also shown at May 2024’s Disney Upfront event. According to IGN‘s Daredevil: Born Again preview footage description, the teaser begins with the MCU hero in his Daredevil suit as his voice narrates over the footage, stating that, “entire system is against you… it’s often Davis vs. Goliath.” Kingpin, Foggy, and Karen are shown, and then the footage switches to an action sequence.

At the end of the teaser, Matt Murdock is asked, “What kind of a lawyer are you?” and responds by saying “A really good one,” which is a direct nod to his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Hopefully, this teaser may be officially released sometime soon, allowing audiences their first tangible glimpse at the show’s footage and thus their first real idea of what to expect from the show going forward – which would be major, given the level of hype for the series and the reboot of Charlie Cox’s iconic iteration of Daredevil already.

As it stands, though, it appears that focus has been placed on connecting the Netflix Marvel characters to the MCU more via the show, which sets a promising precedent going forward for the series. While the show has also reportedly cut down on the amount of time Matt Murdock will operate as a lawyer and not a superhero during the series, the teaser also suggests it will still be a focal element of his season 1 story at points, blending his civilian and vigilante careers further together.

Daredevil: Born Again Will Not Be A Continuation Of The Netflix Series

While the main characters of the Netflix series are returning, the show will not be season 4 of Daredevil. Instead, Daredevil: Born Again will be its own thing and something of a soft reboot. This will seemingly be similar to how The Suicide Squad (2021) used characters and actors from Suicide Squad (2016) to tell a story that ignores the plot of the previous films while retaining some of the personalities and ideas.

However, it appears the MCU will still be using storylines from the Daredevil series. Echo shows that Kingpin has retained the same backstory from the Netflix show, and Bullseye’s reappearance similarly suggests the franchise will be utilizing his arc in the original Netflix Daredevil series. As such, it appears the MCU will be taking elements from the Netflix lore, while not strictly keeping everything exactly identical to it.

Marvel Entertainment’s television shows may not be directly connected to the MCU anymore, but they still featured plenty of character crossovers.

She-Hulk and Spider-Man: No Way Home already showcased the MCU version of Murdock with their respective cameo appearances. It’s clear Matt Murdock is just as driven to get justice for others as he was in the original series and in the comics through his attempts to protect Peter Parker in the MCU – and that his reflexes are also just as sharp, given he catches a brick flung at the young superhero with seeming relative ease.

The MCU is a much more lighthearted universe than that of the Netflix Marvel television shows, but Cox has promised he will not be changing the way he plays Murdock. However, the character may still need to make some changes to fit in the new world of the MCU for Daredevil: Born Again.
