The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) makes more changes in weeks than most cricket boards make in a year. Less than a month after being appointed as advisor to PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistani legend Waqar Younis has decided to step down from the role.

According to Cricket Pakistan, Waqar, who joined the PCB in his new role on July 31, is looking to resign. The reason behind a change of heart isn’t Pakistan’s shocking loss to Bangladesh earlier in the day, but due to some friction between him and other PCB officials.

Since his appointment, Waqar hasn’t been visiting the office often, and many officials have been reluctant to work alongside him. Frustrated, the former head coach has decided that it’s time to leave the position. The PCB has already published a job advertisement for the role, despite Waqar still holding the position.

Fascinatingly, Waqar Younis wasn’t the PCB’s first choice. His former partner in crime, Wasim Akram, was the one whom the cricket board was targeting, but the Sultan of Swing rejected the proposition. It’ll be interesting to see if the PCB approaches Akram once again or seeks another former Pakistani great.
