India’s badminton star HS Prannoy has pulled out of the upcoming tournaments. The 31-year-old shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) announcing that, chikungunya has seriously affected his body, forcing him to withdraw from several upcoming competitions. Prannoy has decided to focus on his recovery for now and promised to return stronger.

“Unfortunately, chikungunya has taken a toll on my body, causing ongoing pain that prevents me from competing at my best,” he wrote. “After careful discussion with my team, I’ve chosen to withdraw from some of the upcoming tournaments to focus on getting better. Thank you for your understanding and support during this difficult time. I’ll come back stronger.”Prannoy said.

Which tournaments Pronnoy is set to miss

Pronnoy is set to miss almost five tournaments. These include the Super 500 Korea Open, Super 300 Taipei Open, Super 500 Hong Kong Open, Super 1000 China Open, and Super 300 Macau Open, all scheduled for September 2024.

Part of the Indian contingent at Paris Olympics

Prannoy was part of the Indian badminton team at the Paris Olympics, where India failed to win a medal for the first time since 2012. He lost to his fellow Indian player Lakshya Sen in the round of 16, with scores of 12-21 and 6-21. This was the first time two Indian players faced each other at the Olympics.
