LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka does not mess around when it comes to his team’s performance in the IPL. Sanjeev Goenka’s heated conversation with skipper KL Rahul also went viral on the social media platform in this year’s IPL after the team’s poor performance in the last concluded edition.

Once, the owner of the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant’s, Sanjeev Goenka, made a bold move to remove MS Dhoni from the captaincy post.

Due to the two-year suspensions of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, the players that belonged to those franchises were picked by RPS and Gujarat Lions (the other filler franchise) via a draft.

MS Dhoni, the-then CSK skipper, was picked by RPS and appointed as the captain. However, RPS finished second from bottom in IPL 2016.

That led to the sacking of Dhoni as captain for the 2017 edition, with Australian batsman Steve Smith chosen to take over. In 2017, RPS made it to the final but eventually lost to Mumbai Indians in what was a dramatic game.  That same year, though, Goenka assured that there were no hard feelings between Dhoni and him and that he admired him as an individual.

Who is Sanjeev Goenka?

Apart from being the owner of LSG in IPL, Sanjeev Goenka is the younger of the Goenka brothers who run the RPSG Group, a multinational conglomerate that is headquartered in Kolkata. Goenka founded the company and is currently serving as its chairperson.
