Subasta IPL 2025, que actualmente está bajo la mirada de todos con muchos rumores. En este debate, ¿sabe cuál es la regla de retención 3+1, que podría afectar a varios equipos si se modifica?

IPL retention rules are currently a hot topic among franchises, but more than that, they are a point of curiosity for viewers as the IPL mega auction approaches with high expectations. In a recently concluded meeting, several matters came to light, and not surprisingly, this retention policy was one of them. It was highlighted that franchises want the BCCI to increase the number of retentions and scrap the 3+1 retention policy rule.

However, the question is, what does the 3+1 retention policy says, and why is its existence in danger? Although there are signs that this rule may be retained, but let’s take a closer look at what the rule says to understand it better.

What is 3+1 retention rule in IPL?

This rule states that franchises are currently allowed to retain a maximum of three players and can go for one more retention by using the RTM card during the auction process. The RTM card is certainly a strategic tool, but it is also a debatable one. On one side, supporters argue that it helps players earn more money, while critics contend that it restricts player development in the league, as they are bound to one team and unable to explore other opportunities.

IPL 2025 Auction rules

As mentioned, there is a chance that the BCCI will not remove the rule, whereas there may be opportunities to see many other rules change. One of the rules that might change is granting retired international players an uncapped status. This rule states that if a player has retired from international cricket for five or more years, they would be classified as an uncapped player. This rule is primarily in focus due to MS Dhoni, as there are speculations that the BCCI may reinstate it. Interestingly, this rule was in effect for a long time, from 2008 to 2021.
