In the T20 format, where rules have traditionally favored batters and star players often dominate the bowling, the IPL stands as a prime example with many batting records being shattered continuously. The IPL 2025 mega auction, which could take place this December or next February, is sure to create a buzz, just as it has in the past. Many rules have come under scrutiny, and there is a chance that the BCCI will review them. What rules might be tweaked or abolished? Speculation is high about potential changes to IPL rules. Here are a few that the BCCI might consider modifying or scrapping.

IPL Auction rules

IPL bouncer rule

On one hand, while international cricket allows only one bouncer per over, the BCCI introduced a rule before the IPL 2024 season allowing two bouncers per over. This rule was applied not only in the IPL but also in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the domestic T20 tournament. However, if we trust reports, this rule may get scrapped. The discussion around this is expected to be intense, with many feeling that if it is removed, batters who already have an advantage in this format will gain an even greater upper hand.

Impact player rule

Now, one more IPL rule that has garnered massive attention since its inception, but mostly for the wrong reasons, is the Impact Player rule. T20 legends like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and David Miller have openly criticized this rule. But now we may see some conclusions on this matter, there is a chance, that the rule will be in place again for IPL 2025.

The Impact Player rule allows both captains to name five substitutes before the game, from which they can choose one to replace a player in their respective lineups at any point during the match. While players have criticized the rule, broadcasters who have invested heavily in IPL rights are happy with it, making this development even more intriguing now.
