Yogesh Kathuniya secured India’s third silver medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024 on Monday in the men’s discus throw F-56 event. This marks his second consecutive silver, following his success at the Rio Paralympics 2020.

Kathuniya’s first throw of 42.22 meters earned him the silver medal. Brazil’s Claudiney Batista claimed the gold with a throw of 46.86 meters on his fifth attempt, marking his fifth gold medal win.

Yogesh Kathuniya, an Indian Paralympian athlete born on March 3, 1997, won a silver medal in the men’s discus throw F56 event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.

Yogesh suffers from Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes weakness in his limbs. Despite this challenge, his mother never lost hope. She decided to study physiotherapy to help her son regain his strength and stand on his own feet.

Yogesh Kathuniya began para sports in 2016, inspired by Sachin Yadav of Kirori Mal College. He set a world record in the F36 category with a 45.18-meter throw at the 2018 Berlin World Para Athletics Championships. At the 2020 Summer Paralympics, he won silver in the men’s discus throw F56, earning the Arjuna Award in 2021.
