Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had an excellent season in IPL 2024, as they trounced their way to dominantly win the title for the third time in history, and for the first time in 10 years. Ahead of the IPL mega auction, KKR have a lot of planning to do and try to maintain their core. There will be big shoes to fill especially with the departure of mentor Gautam Gambhir who went on to become the Team India head coach. There are also rumours of a shift in captaincy as the IPL 2025 mega auction comes nearer.

No Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2025

In the 2024 IPL, Shreyas Iyer became the second captain in history to win the IPL title for KKR after Gautam Gambhir. Hence, it would be a surprise if the franchise let him go. However, there are reports that if Suryakumar Yadav comes back to KKR, then Iyer would be traded to Mumbai Indians in exchange.

Suryakumar Yadav in KKR for IPL 2025

In the 2024 IPL, there were reports that Surya was not happy with MI management handing over the captaincy to Hardik Pandya. Recently, there have been rumours of Suryakumar Yadav joining the KKR camp for IPL 2025.

Ricky Ponting to join KKR as mentor?

There have been reports that KKR are exploring a number of options as their new mentor. However, the most viable alternative seems to be Ricky Ponting, who left his position as the Delhi Capitals head coach earlier this years. Kumar Sangakkara and Jacques Kallis are rumoured to be the other options, according to reports.
