After two successful seasons on the air so far, The Lincoln Lawyer is returning for a third season and there are plenty of exciting updates.

Screen Rant interviewed Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Becki Newton, Yaya DaCosta, Jazz Raycole, Christian Antidormi, Fiona Rene, Wolé Parks, Philip Anthony-Rodriguez, Allyn Morigon, Krista Warner, director Paula Garcés, author Michael Connelly (who is also the mastermind behind the Bosch series), as well as co-showrunners and executive producers, Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez, at the red carpet premiere celebrating The Lincoln Lawyer season 3.

They all reveal what they were most excited to explore in this season, and many confessed that this is their favorite of Michael Connelly’s books. The cast details their favorite memories on set, while newcomers to the series gush about how excited they were to join.

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo Addresses MIckey’s Father Return As A Ghost In Season 3

“There’s always something, like a shadow, that he can never take away.”

Screen Rant: How is Mickey’s father returning this season going to affect him?

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo: [He returns] as a ghost, but I think there’s always something, like a shadow, that he can never take away, and I think there’s a conclusion to it in this season. So it’s pretty interesting.

Becki Newton Reveals What She Has Learned From Lorna Crane’s Journey

“Now I kind of act like a lawyer, and sometimes I have to be reminded that I’m not actually a lawyer.”

Becki Newton smiling during The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 interview

Screen Rant: Do you think you have learned anything from your character, Lorna Crane?

Becki Newton: I’ve learned how to speak about legal matters. I don’t know what language – it’s a totally different language, even though it’s in English. I can’t imagine how Manuel does it in a language that’s not his first language. But I’ve enjoyed it so much and learned quite a bit. Now I kind of act like a lawyer, and sometimes I have to be reminded that I’m not actually a lawyer. I just play one on TV.

Yaya DaCosta Was Able To Bring Authenticity To Her Character In The Lincoln Lawyer

“Integrating real life and work was really beautiful because they didn’t have what I needed on set. But, of course, I had it in my bag because I always do.”

Yaya Decosta smiling during The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 interview

Screen Rant: Is there a favorite or unique moment that happened on set this season?

Yaya DaCosta: There’s one little fun fact. There’s a scene where you see Andrea at home, and she’s in a situation where most women, at least women that I know with textured hair, would cover their hair. And that wasn’t in the script. So we had to talk about why, and I ended up, as Yaya, the actor, giving Andrea the character, a wrap from my new real world line of head wraps, Wraps N’ Raps. Integrating real life and work was really beautiful because they didn’t have what I needed on set. But, of course, I had it in my bag because I always do. So that was really beautiful, just to be able to represent the authenticity of what it means to be a black woman in any profession and how we do our hair.

Jazz Raycole’s Izzy Has A Glow Up In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3

“Where you meet her at the end of season 2 and where you’re going to see her at the end of season three are very, very different.”

Jazz Raycole smiling during The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 interview

Screen Rant: Can you talk about Izzy’s journey this season?

Jazz Raycole: I think in the late twenties, everyone goes through that transition period of what am I doing, what do I want, who am I? And I think you see that with Izzy in the third season because where you meet her at the end of season two and where you’re going to see her at the end of season three are very, very different. A bit of a glow up this season.

Christian Antidormi Says His Lincoln Lawyer Character Was A Lot Of Fun To Play

“He’s a bit of a bad guy, it’s a lot of fun.”

Screen Rant: Is there anything you can tease about your character?

Christian Antidormi: He’s definitely a bit of a rascal at times. Likes to make laughing a little difficult at times, so it was a lot of fun to play. A bit of a bad guy, a bit of a pain in the ass to some of the other characters. It’s a lot of fun,

Fiona Rene Admits Gloria Is A Bit Of A Mess In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3

“Every day, we live our lives, and everyone’s trying to make us clean and perfect and not messy. ”

Fiona Rene smiling during The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 interview

Screen Rant: What were you most excited to explore this season?

Fiona Rene: Gloria’s backstory. I can’t wait to see myself and her mess. I can’t wait for everyone to see Gloria is a real mess, man. She’s messy. It makes you feel so free to be able to play something that people want you to be messy. Every day, we live our lives, and everyone’s trying to make us clean and perfect and not messy. So for you to be able to come to work, and they’re like, yeah, be a disaster. You’re like, oh, thank God this is easy. I was excited to film her mess.

Wolé Parks Was Hoping He Would Be A Bad Guy In The Lincoln Lawyer

“Honestly, I hoped that I was maybe part of the crime.”

Wole Parks smiling during The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 interview

Screen Rant: What were you most excited for when it comes to joining The Lincoln Lawyer cast?

Wolé Parks: I became a fan of the show. I’ve been through all the seasons and whatnot. So honestly, I hoped that I was maybe part of the crime, the plot, or whatever. So I got to find out. The audience will find out soon enough. But yeah, that was the most fun part for me. There’s a lot’s happening for my character in episode nine.

Philip Anthony-Rodriguez Couldn’t Put The Books Down

“It’s four o’clock in the morning and I’m still reading the book.”

Screen Rant: Were you a fan of The Lincoln Lawyer books before joining the cast?

Philip Anthony-Rodriguez: Not at first. But when the novels started coming out and being made into films and television series, then I became an avid reader. And they’re engrossing. Michael [Connelly] is great. It’s four o’clock in the morning, and I’m still reading the book.

Allyn Morigon’s Character Eddie Is Excited, Just Like He Is

“Eddie is excited to be there and Allyn is like, oh, easy day at work.”

Screen Rant: What were you most excited for, joining The Lincoln Lawyer cast?

Allyn Morigon: Eddie is excited to be there and Allyn is like, oh, easy day at work. I got to sit across from Manuel every single day, which was really cool. We built a chemistry on camera too, so it was really a lot of fun.

Screen Rant: Is there something you were most excited to film this season?

Krista Warner: I got to spend a lot of time with Manuel, which was fun, and I got the chance to do a scene with the entire main cast, which is a first and something I wanted for a long time. So that was really nice.

Paula Garcés Says Directing The Lincoln Lawyer Was “A Dream Come True”

“Season 2 came around, and I got a very amazing opportunity to shadow a director, Ben Hernandez, who did a couple of the episodes.”

Paula Garces smiling during Lincoln Lawyer season 3

Screen Rant: What was it like directing an episode of The Lincoln Lawyer?

Paula Garcés: It’s a dream come true. I’ve been acting for more than 35 years and my mom was like, you need to watch this show, The Lincoln Lawyer. She put me on to season one, and so I was obsessed, and I was like, I need to get on this show somehow. Season two came around, and I got a very amazing opportunity to shadow a director, Ben Hernandez, who did a couple of the episodes. And then season three, Netflix and everyone here at The Lincoln Lawyer, Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez, and Ben Hernandez, gave me the great opportunity to direct episode 307.

This Season Adapts Michael Connelly’s Favorite Lincoln Lawyer Book

“That stands as my favorite Lincoln Lawyer book, so I’m glad they made it.”

Michael Connelly smiling during Lincoln Lawyer season 3 interview

Screen Rant: How does it feel that your books are being adapted into not just a movie, but now a television show?

Michael Connelly: I think it’s any writer’s dream come true, and what’s great about this show is that they keep raising the bar themselves. I don’t even have to do anything. This season is very special because it’s my favorite. It’s adapting my favorite book, the Gods of Guilt. That stands as my favorite Lincoln Lawyer book, so I’m glad they made it.

Ted Humphrey Will Keep Adapting The Books As Long As Netflix Lets Him

“As long as it’s all about the audience enjoying what we do.”

Ted Humphrey smiling during Lincoln Lawyer season 3 interview

Screen Rant: There’s obviously some changes you have to make when adapting the books. How do you make those decisions?

Ted Humphrey: Every book is different. We’re lucky to have Michael Connelly work with us and he’s incredibly collaborative. He’s always the first person to say, let’s throw out this thing that was in the book and let’s come up with something new. He was more involved in earlier seasons than he is now, but he is still very involved. So it’s a challenge, but also, I really love these books, so it’s a fun challenge, and sometimes you knock it out of the park.

Screen Rant: Do you see The Lincoln Lawyer continuing to adapt all the books?

Ted Humphrey: As long as it’s all about the audience enjoying what we do, as long as people watch, and as long as there’s material to work with, yes.

Dailyn Rodriguez Says Gods Of Guilt Is Everyone’s Favorite Book

“We were so excited to sit in the room and start breaking this story down, and putting it on screen.”

Dailyn Rodriguez on Lincoln Lawyer season 3 red carpet

Screen Rant: What were you most excited for, adapting Gods of Guilt, this season?

Dailyn Rodriguez: It’s everyone’s favorite book. We were so excited to sit in the room and start breaking this story down, and putting it on screen, but I was also really excited about exploring some stuff that wasn’t in the book. We have a great storyline for Lorna this season, which I really loved. That was really exciting to me, to try something that wasn’t just the book. But the book is Michael’s best book of the series, and we were really excited to work on it.
