Official List Of Every Single Disney Villain, Ranked

The Disney villains ranked include a mix of purely evil individuals and some misunderstood antagonists who were mostly guilty of making poor decisions. From the time that Disney started making animated releases with Steamboat Willy and Mickey Mouse, there have been villains opposing them. However, thanks to the feature films, starting with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the villains were sometimes more colorful and entertaining than the heroes. It was the villains that could do really dramatic things and made most of the animated movies worth rewatching over and over again.

Disney’s animated catalog is available to stream on Disney+.

The best Disney villains include hunters and poachers, witches and sorcerers, and gods and monsters. However, they also include neglected toys, grieving parents, and spurned lovers who want revenge against those who rejected them. There are many different types of villains in Disney animated movies, but Disney always surprises fans by bringing a new bad guy who is even bigger and better than the last. With that said, the classics are still among the best, and the Disney villains have proven to maintain their status as some of the deadliest in movies, animated or otherwise.

53 Amos Slade

The Fox And The Hound (1981)

In some cases with Disney villains, they only seem evil because of the difficulties they present to the heroes of the story, rather than them actually being nefarious characters. In The Fox and the Hound, Amos Slade is really just a hunter, but one of the key traits of Disney Animation is humanizing animals. For example, “Man” was the ultimate villain in Bambi for killing the fawn’s mother.

Here, Amos wants to kill Tod the fox, and since Tod is a hero in the movie, that makes Amos a villain in contrast. Coming between one of the most heartwarming Disney stories of friendship is bound to make Amos an unlikeable character initially. However, he shows kindness and love for his dog by not killing the fox when he realizes they are friends, easily making him the nicest of all the Disney villains.

52 Sid

Toy Story (1995)

Sid Phillips is the villain in Toy Story and it is not hard to see why the toys fear him as a sadistic foe. Andy’s toys watch from their own house as Sid brutally dismantles his toys, even blowing one up with a rocket right in front of them. However, this is a problem when it comes to Sid. He isn’t a villain, but rather a young boy who likes to take apart his toys and then rebuild them into monstrous creations.

He is more of a creative little boy than a villain. There is no way he could have known that the toys he’s mutilating are living creatures. While he may seem like a serial killer-in-training, Sid was just a boy who ended up traumatized when all his prized toys came to life and surrounded him. The meanest thing he did in the movie was destroy his little sister’s doll without asking, making him a bit of a mean older brother but not a villain.

51 Si & Am

The Lady And The Tramp (1955)

There are problems in early Disney movies, and a perfect example is the troublesome Siamese cats and their racially insensitive song in Lady and the Tramp. The uncomfortable nature of these depictions has perhaps added to the reputation of the characters as villains when their actions are not as bad as some of their other Disney colleagues.

In the movie, Si and Am are hardly villains, just mischievous troublemakers. They purposely make a mess of things and even try to eat the family goldfish, knowing that the dog Lady will be blamed for it all. Certainly, that makes them detestable, but a lot of the blame has to go to their owner, Aunt Sarah, who refuses to imagine her creepy cats could have done any of this. As frustrating as it might be, Si and Am are basically just acting the way most cats do.

50 Edgar Balthazar

The Aristocats (1970)

Edgar-Balthazar holding several cats in Aristocat

Edgar Balthazar is the loyal butler in The Aristocats to millionaire Madame Bonfamilile. However, he becomes the villain of this Disney movie when he learns that she plans to leave all her fortune to her kittens. While he is a villain who captures the beloved felines, his only purely evil move is planning to ship them to Timbuktu. Compared to another villainous Disney pet kidnapper, Cruella De Vil, who was remorseless about murdering innocent animals, Edgar goes to great lengths not to hurt them.

The movie seems to recognize that he is not a truly bad guy as he is depicted as too clumsy and incompetent to be seen as a threat. In fact, there is something endearing about this working man who is frustrated with his ungrateful employer. After spending his whole life waiting on a rich old woman, it is understandable that he is overlooked in terms of compensation in favor of some cats.

49 The Big Bad Wolf

The Three Little Pigs (1933)

The Big Bad Wolf trying to get into the second Pig's house

The Big Bad Wolf is the villain in the Silly Symphonies short movie The Three Little Pigs. He is ruthless and conniving, with his mission to eat the three little pigs certainly making him a villain. There is an overconfidence to The Big Bad Wolf as he comes to each of the pig’s houses, quickly knocking down the ones made of straw and sticks with blows. However, when all the huffing and puffing doesn’t knock down the brick house, he attempts to climb down the chimney only to fall into a pot of boiling water.

The classic story is a lesson in how taking a little time to do things right can make all the difference, but there is also a lesson to be learned through the Wolf’s follies. He relied too heavily on being about to huff and puff his way to success and was not prepared for those tactics to fail. In the end, his short Disney appearance and lack of proper planning fail to make him a standout villain.

48 King Magnifico

Wish (2023)

In Wish’s kingdom of Rosas, King Magnifico is the ruler and keeper of all the wishes. The citizens are given the chance to make a wish which Magnifico may one day grant. He is exposed as the movie’s villain when it is discovered that the majority of the wishes will not be granted. While Magnifico has some solid reasoning for why not everyone’s wish can come true, there is also a sense that he wants to hold onto all of the power for himself.

Magnifico’s selfish ways are confirmed when he grows jealous of a wishing star using magic throughout the kingdom and he turns to dark magic as a way to regain control. Magnifico’s turn from a decent ruler to an evil sorcerer is so abrupt that it is hard to really get onboard with him as a villain. Also, his fate of being forever trapped as the magic mirror from Snow White is a harsh one, given he was once a pretty good guy.

47 Honest John & Gideon

Pinocchio (1940)

The real villain in Pinocchio was the hero himself, who wanted to be a real boy but made some bad decisions in his life that caused him to face a dark fate. However, young Pinocchio wasn’t alone in falling into temptation. Honest John and Gideon were con artists who often swindled people through their smooth talking. When it came to Pinocchio, they convinced him to go to Pleasure Island, which was where bad boys were turned into donkeys.

They were bad, but they were just whispering in Pinocchio’s ear and manipulating the impressionable young man. However, with the introduction of Stromboli later in the movie, the man who actually turns these poor boys into donkeys, it puts into context that Honest John and Gideon are just low-level villains. Even they are disturbed by Stromboli’s villainy.

46 Evil Ralph

Ralph Breaks The Internet (2018)

Evil Ralph looking angry in Ralph Breaks the Internet.

Wreck-It Ralph is a very fun examination of heroes and villains. Set in the world of video games, Ralph is a classic arcade villain, similar to Donkey Kong in his first incarnation. However, Ralph is a gentle guy at heart and wants to be one of the good guys. The movie examines his struggles with the world around him trying to force him to be a certain way. He is helped to realize he can be a hero in the first movie by his friend Vanellope. However, the sequel sees a villainous version of Ralph emerge after all.

It wasn’t actually Ralph himself who became a villain, but his insecurity created his doppelgänger that grew to an enormous size and threatened to destroy everything when Ralph believed Vanellope decided she wanted to move away. It took the real Ralph trusting his friend and letting her go for the Evil Ralph to fall. While a nice concept for a villain, Ralph was too endearing as a hero by this point to really see him as a bad guy.

45 Gabby Gabby

Toy Story 4 (2019)

Gabby Gabby took on a familiar role in Toy Story movies as someone who pretended to be a friend before revealing herself as the villain. However, she had the most sympathetic story of any villain in the series. She was a doll who wanted more than anything to have a girl named Harmony adopt her, but her voice box was broken and this caused her to remain a misfit toy. Her goal was to steal Woody’s voice box, making her a dangerous antagonist.

However, Gabby is able to show Woody her reasons in a way that actually convinces him to willingly hand over his voice box. Sadly, even with her supposed fault now fixed, Harmony still doesn’t choose to take her home. Gabby turns from a threatening villain to someone the audience’s heart breaks for. Luckily, she gets her happy ending when she finds a loving child.

44 Te Kā

Moana (2016)

There are some great examples of Disney villains who have terrifying exteriors but are largely misunderstood creatures at their center. Te Kā is a volcano demon in Moana with a nightmarish appearance that sets her up to be a terrifying villain. It is also true that she is responsible for some destruction, as for much of the movie she did everything in her power to destroy everything. She sent out a force that killed all plant life, destroying kingdoms across the seas.

However, it is only revealed later in the story that Maui stole her heart, which sent her on her destructive path. While the wrong that Maui caused is not an excuse for Te Kā’s behavior, she does prove to be a lot more reasonable than she initially seemed. When Moana returned her heart to her, Te Kā turned back into her serene alter-ego, Te Fiti, and reversed her damage to the planet.

Disney’s Moana takes place in ancient Polynesia, and tells the story of the titular princess. The daughter of a tribe chief in a coastal village, Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho) is drawn to the sea, believing it is her quest to return the Heart of Te Fiti – a mysterious relic – to its rightful home in order to stop the blight threatening her island. Along the way, she meets the trickster demi-god, Maui (Dwayne Johnson), who helps her on her quest.

43 Anxiety

Inside Out 2 (2024)

Anxiety is another one of the more sympathetic Disney villains are part of that comes from the fact that she might be the most relatable character in the movie for a lot of people. Inside Out 2 introduces a number of new emotions, but Anxiety quickly becomes the most domineering one. That makes sense given the fact that the sequel focuses on Riley’s struggles as she enters puberty. Anxiety quickly takes over the control room, even banishing Joy and the other emotions so that she can dictate what is best for Riley.

While Anxiety is immediately frustrating, as she gets in the way and assumes she knows what’s best, everything she is doing is with the purpose of helping Riley get what she wants. Anxiety doesn’t even enjoy taking control, but she is unable to let go and the worse things get, the more she spirals in trying to fix things. The heartbroken reaction she has to seeing that all her work led to Riley thinking she wasn’t good enough shows that she is not evil but misguided.

42 Madame Medusa

The Rescuers (1977)

Medusa with her pet crocodile The Rescuers

Madame Medusa was the main villain in The Rescuers, one of the more forgotten Disney movies during a period when they were not as popular as in other eras. She’s obsessed with diamonds, particularly the Devil’s Eye, and that self-centered motivation leads her to do some truly evil things. She is obsessive and greedy and would do anything to get more diamonds, including kidnapping the orphan girl, Penny.

She proved how despicable she was when she left Penny to possibly drown and even shot a gun at the young girl. However, the Rescuers save Penny and leave Medusa at the mercy of the crocodiles, Brutus and Nero. Medusa’s level of villain is certainly despicable, but part of the reason she is not as memorable as other Disney villains is that she never seems very competent. She is unhinged and chaotic, but it is not surprising that she is taken down by a pair of mice.

41 Ercole Visconti

Luca (2021)

Ercole, Guido and Ciccio standing in a challenging way in Luca

When it comes to the younger Disney villains, Ercole Visconti is not as easy to sympathize with, even if his age gives him a bit of a pass. In Luca, Ercole is a 16-year-old who is a repeat champion in the Portorosso Cup race since he owns a great Vespa and has no problem letting people know how great he is. However, he is also a cheater and believes he can cut corners to win, no matter what underhanded tactics he attempts.

When he decided to expose Luca as a sea monster, putting the boy’s life in danger, he stepped over the line. However, he was still just a spoiled teen and a bully rather than being a full-fledged villain. What makes Ercole a great villain for the younger audience to watch is that his bullying ways are never seen as beneficial. Everyone detests his arrogance, and he is often made a fool of despite how impressive he pretends to be.

40 Prince John

Robin Hood (1973)

In the Disney Animation version of the story of Robin Hood, the movie saw Prince John (a lion) usurping the throne from his brother King Richard. He then finds a thorn in his side from Robin Hood (a fox). Little John (a bear), and Maid Marion (another fox). He is a classic villain who has been depicted in movies and television shows many different times. This version is one of the most entertaining but also makes for one of the least formidable versions of the villainous character.

In this movie, the Sheriff of Nottingham (a wolf) is a more active villain, fighting Robin Hood and his Merry Men, but the main villain is Prince John. He is the kind of villain who orders his henchmen to do everything but has no ability to accomplish anything himself. He is also hilariously infantile, literally sucking his thumb and pulling on his ear like a baby when things don’t go his way.

39 Stinky Pete

Toy Story 2 (1999)

The first Toy Story movie had a misunderstood villain in Sid, but the second movie had a true bad guy in Stinky Pete. The sequel finds Woody being introduced to his legacy as the star of Woody’s Roundup, a beloved children’s show that featured a cast of colorful characters, including Stinky Pete. With Woody as the missing piece of the ensemble, they are now all ready to be put on display at a prestigious toy museum, which is something Pete will stop at nothing to see happen.

In many ways, his reasoning is understandable. He spent his entire life in a box, never knowing the love of a child. His one chance to have a purpose and be adored as a toy depends on Woody. When Woody suggests that Andy would take in the entire Woody’s Roundup gang, Pete refuses, showing that his years of being isolated have made him cynical about children. As a result, he is willing to send Woody to the museum in pieces if it means he gets his way.

The sequel to Pixar’s critically-acclaimed Toy Story, Toy Story 2 picks up the story of Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz (Tim Allen) when the cowboy doll is stolen by a toy collector. Learning that he’s actually a rare collectible, Woody considers joining the collection along with cowgirl Jessie (Joan Cusack) and Stinky Pete the Prospector (Kelsey Grammer) until his friends mount a daring rescue mission.

38 Madam Mim

The Sword In The Stone (1963)

In The Sword and the Stone, Madam Mim is a wicked witch who loves seeing others in misery. Disney’s retelling of King Arthur sees her as a powerful magic user and a rival of Merlin. While that might make her sound formidable, she is also a comedic character who is more entertaining than scary. Though she has impressive powers, Madam Mim’s downfall is her own arrogance. Mim believes that she is the most powerful wizard in history, but she soon learns there is always someone stronger out there.

Merlin easily outsmarts her in the “Wizards’ Duel,” which sees the two magical beings trying to outdo each other as they transform into different animals. She ended up more like an annoying child who cheats at everything. However, when she gets mad, Mim’s villainous nature does become a little more intimidating as she actually tries to kill Merlin.

37 Screenslaver

Incredibles 2 (2018)

Screenslaver (aka Evelyn Deavor), has an ax to grind against superheroes, and plots to have them rendered illegal. What she does as a result in Incredibles 2 shows how evil she is as she sets up some bombs, and puts a lot of people’s lives in danger. She proved her real power when she mind-controlled the Supers, including Helen, Bob, and Lucas, and then set the other mind-controlled Supers out to beat them.

However, unlike Syndrome before her, she couldn’t really stay in the fight when Elastigirl caught up with her. She was someone who used a lot of flash and creepy vibes to appear more impressive than she actually was. Another factor in making her less memorable was the mystery behind the character, with the audience not knowing who this villain was or what they were after for much of the runtime of the movie. It is an interesting take for a Disney villain, but once the reveal was made, Screenslaver got a lot less interesting.

The sequel to Pixar’s The Incredibles, Incredibles 2 follows the Parr family as they continue to fight crime as Supers. In a world that has only recently rediscovered its need for superpowered heroes, building trust is key. However, when Elastigirl uncovers a villainous plot to discredit the Super community, the family investigates, putting the Parrs in more danger than ever before.

36 Miles Axelrod

Cars 2 (2011)

The Cars movies have often been simply sports stories set in the world of sports that don’t really have standout villains other than some sports rivals. However, that is different in Cars 2, which incorporates a spy movie element into the story. The sequel follows Mater and Lightning McQueen on a race tour in Europe, only for Mater to be mistaken for an international spy and dragged into a conspiracy in which he must stop a nefarious plot hatched by an unknown villain.

Miles Axelrod is another villain who is only revealed later in the movie, not really giving him a lot of time to embrace his villainy. However, he does stand out slightly thanks to a clever plan at the center of his schemes. He hopes to discredit a new fuel source for cars, thus making himself rich. It feels appropriately like something out of a James Bond movie.

35 Peg Leg Pete

Mickey Mouse Series (1925- )

Mickey and Minnie laugh while Peg-Leg Pete is angry in Get a horse!

Peg Leg Pete deserves respect when looking at the Disney villains because he was the original Disney villain. He was the cranky, meanspirited, and easy-to-hate antagonist who was always giving Mickey a hard time. He’s best known for repeatedly abducting Minnie Mouse over the years, but he proves that he has a lot of versatility as a villain, sometimes being depicted as a hardened criminal, sometimes as a corrupt authority figure, and sometimes simply as an obnoxious bully.

Over time, Peg Leg Pete’s villainy would lessen, as seen in Goof Troop and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. More recently, he is simply known as Pete and is presented as a rude and crass acquaintance to the heroes like Mickey and Goofy. Though he is still unlikable, he is also harmless, and his meanness always makes him the butt of the jokes in the end. Still, for his long legacy alone, he is a notable Disney villain.

34 Namaari

Raya And the Last Dragon (2021)

Namaari is another one of the tragic Disney villains and was a true threat in Raya and the Last Dragon. She was the daughter of Chief Virana and was the princess of Kumandra’s Fang. She has always envied Heart’s prosperity and believes that her land deserves the source of power from the Dragon Gem. However, while she wanted to help her kingdom, the lengths she went to for this goal made her a dangerous villain, and someone who hurt more people than she had a chance to help.

Despite the danger of her misguided ways, Namaari is also one of Disney’s villains who is able to see the error of her ways before it is too late. It was Namaari who helped release the Druun, but in the end, she sacrificed herself to help Raya defeat the beast.

Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon follows Raya (Kelly Marie Tran), the warrior princess of the Heart tribe, as she seeks to restore peace to the nation of Kumandra. After the evil Druun – mindless spirits who turn living things to stone – divide Kumandra into five warring tribes, Raya believes that if she can find the last dragon, Sisu (Awkwafina), she can reunite the five tribes.
