Throne And Liberty: The Best Dagger & Staff Build (Gear, Skills, & Weapons)

With nearly 30 different weapon combos available to players in Throne and Liberty, there are plenty of different build options to suit every playstyle. Early in the game, players choose a primary and secondary weapon which determines the skills their character will have access to. While there are several builds that have become quite popular in the game, one of the more unique and exciting builds is the Dagger & Staff Build, known in-game as the Spellblade.

The strongest versions of this build, like this one from TheGamer, combine the Burning (Staff) and Poison (Dagger) status effects to achieve a high damage output for both single-target and AoE attacks. While it will take a lot of time to find the gear you need and max out your levels and skills, it will be well worth it when you are able to challenge even the most difficult dungeons and bosses with this powerful Dagger & Staff Build.

Best Weapons For A Dagger & Staff Build

Unlock Dagger & Staff Weapon Mastery Skills

Before chasing down specific gear, you’ll want to focus on unlocking the Weapon Mastery skills that you’ll need. Allocate Weapon Mastery Points to unlock skill nodes in the middle and bottom branches of the Staff Weapon Mastery Skill Tree. After investing a point in Radiant Composure, unlock the Damage, Magic Hit Chance, Fatal Incantation, Damage, Mana Regen, and Mana Intensification skill nodes from the middle branch, and all the skill nodes in the bottom branch.

For your Daggers, you’ll also focus on skills from the middle and top branches. First, unlock Silent Dash, followed by the following skills from the top skill branch: Ranged Defense, Health Regen, Debuff Immunity, Mana Cost Efficiency, Cooldown Speed, and Master of Evasion. To complete the build, unlock all the skills from the bottom skill branch.

Best Weapon Set & Weapon Traits

For this Dagger & Staff build, there are two specific weapons to hunt down: the Staff of the Umbramancer, and Lequirus’s Wicked Thorns. This combo will get you through to the endgame, but you’ll need to level them all the way up and unlock the right weapon traits for each.

Weapon Mastery effects only apply to the active skills of that specific weapon type (Staff specializations apply to staff skills and dagger specializations apply to dagger skills).
In PvP modes, always hold the weapon that provides the best defensive buffs
from its Mastery effects, which is the dagger in this build. Actively switch to your staff when you want to use ranged auto-attack.
This doesn’t matter as much in PvE,
so go for the convenience of having your staff equipped for the ranged auto-attack.

Once you have your weapons and max out their levels, you’ll next need to focus on Weapon Traits. For both your staff and daggers, unlock the following three traits: Hit Chance, Heavy Hit Chance, and Critical Hit Chance. If you are lucky, one of those traits will be the one unlocked when you first find or craft your weapon.

To unlock a specific trait on any item
,
you’ll need to find or craft a duplicate of the item that already has that trait unlocked.
For example, to unlock three specific traits for Lequirus’s Wicked Thorns, you’ll need to find three different copies of the daggers, each with one of the traits you’d like unlocked. Use the
“Equipment Enchanting: Trait”
menu to manage and unlock the traits of your items.

Once you have managed to unlock all the correct traits, upgrade the traits to their highest level. Upgrading a trait requires you to find an item of the same type and with the same trait you want to upgrade. Once you have, you can enhance the trait from the “Equipment Enchanting” menu.

Start Grinding For Epic Gear

To max out the Dagger and Staff Build, you’ll need to get gear that boosts your stats and increases your chances of dealing heavy amounts of damage. There are a few methods outlined by DPJ on YouTube to obtain all the gear you’ll eventually need. In addition to clearing Lv. 50 dungeons or as random drops from defeating bosses and enemies, you’ll also be able to get epic gear from Precious Epic Chests, Precious Blessing Pouches, and the Auction House.

As with your staff and dagger, you’ll also need to unlock and upgrade the best traits for each gear item. You’ll be doing a lot of running around and exploring to find all the gear pieces, so don’t neglect upgrading your morphs to make exploration easier. Here are all the gear items you’ll need, the corresponding traits to unlock for each piece, and where they can be found:

Best Active Skills For A Dagger & Staff Build

Poison and Burning: Damage Over Time

The main mechanic for this build revolves around inflicting your enemies with Poison and Burning, which will create a large damage-over-time (DoT) effect that will bring down even the toughest enemies. Select skills and specializations that boost skill damage for opponents affected by Burning or Poison, further increasing your overall DPS output.

For your defensive skill, equip the dagger’s Block Blade, which will change to Poison Dagger when you properly time your blocks against Fury Attacks. You’ll need to level up your active skills to their max if you want to get the highest damage output. For each skill, choose specializations that will further enhance Burning or Poison effects and increase damage against Burning and Poisoned targets. Best Passive Skills & Attributes For Dagger & Staff Build

Boosting Your Offense & Defense

Once you have maxed out your Epic gear and allocated all 49 of your attribute points, your total scores should be: Strength 55, Dexterity 30, Wisdom 30, and Perception 64. When allocating points to your base attributes, here’s where you’ll need to put them:

  • Strength: 13 points
  • Dexterity: 12 points
  • Wisdom: 5 points
  • Perception: 19 points

The passive skills that best work with this Dagger and Staff build are those that increase mana, increase damage, enhance Burning/Poison effectiveness, and boost defense. Here are the eight passives that work best with this build:

Passive Skill

Description

Assassin’s Instincts (Dagger)

Increase Critical Hit chance.

Wrathful Edge (Dagger)

Increase critical damage.

Murderous Energy (Dagger)

Increase Poison duration and damage.

Shadow Walker (Dagger)

Increase Damage Reduction and Ranged/Magic Evasion on use of a Mobility/Movement skill.

Destructive Fang (Dagger)

When attacking, it adds the chance to decrease defense of a Poisoned target.

Manaball Eruption (Staff)

Chance to fire an additional projectile/bomb when using a Staff.

Mana Amp (Staff)

Greatly increase max mana and health.

Flame Condensation (Staff)

Increase Burning damage and heavy attack chance against Burning targets.

The only passive skill that you’ll need to worry about triggering is Shadow Walker. To trigger this skill, use any of your three movement actives: Block Blade, Shadow Strike, and Frost (Burning) Smokescreen. Now that you have all the skills and specializations equipped, it’s time to put them all to use.

When entering combat, start off at a distance with your staff. Activate High Focus and follow up with a salvo of Focused Fire Bombs and Inferno Wave, adding stacks of Burning to your target and anyone nearby. Finish off your ranged rotation with Judgment Lightning followed by Chain Lightning, deal bonus damage to burning enemies, then get ready to move in close.

Throne And Liberty Review: Still A Long Way To Go

Throne and Liberty is a perfectly passable, if generic, MMO. It has some interesting ideas, but most fall too flat to establish a unique identity.

Use Inject Venom, Umbral Spirit, and then teleport in behind your target using Shadow Strike, dealing 200% damage and inflicting Bind and Poison. Now that you’re in range, lay on the damage using Cleaving Moonlight (two times) and with Brutal Incision. End with a Burning Smokescreen to re-ignite your targets and move yourself back to where you started. You can now begin the rotation again from the top. Keep up the rotation, applying Burning and Poison your enemies until there are none left standing.

If you happen to find yourself in over your head and need to get away fast, you have a few options available to you:

  • Use Burning Smokescreen to move out of range in any direction while leaving your enemies with a large decrease in movement speed.
  • Re-activate Shadow Strike (within 6 seconds of first using it) to return to your original position when you first cast it.
  • Use Camouflage to break any bind/movement debuffs and go invisible for 10 seconds so you can get away. The next attack you make from stealth will automatically be a critical hit.

Remember to re-activate High Focus as soon as you can to keep its powerful buffs active. Once you have mastered this build, you’ll be able to take on the hardest challenges Throne and Liberty has to offer.
