10 Best Theories About From Season 3

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 3, episode 6.

Since its debut, From has introduced many intriguing mysteries, and has continued to add compelling questions in season 3. The origins of the Town, From‘s monsters, the Boy in White, and the bottle trees are among the numerous mysteries at the heart of the science-fiction horror series. This has naturally generated a great deal of speculation and fascinating theories that tie many of the storylines together and answer From‘s most pressing questions.

Some of these theories focus on specific individuals in From‘s cast of characters, including Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) and Jade Herrera (David Alpay), while others focus more generally on the true nature of the Town and its supernatural forces. Both aspects are equally important to why From has become increasingly popular. While every theory can provide valuable insights, the best theories are those that satisfyingly address specific mysteries and that have ample potential to come true.

10 The Town Is The Lost Colony Of Roanoke

A Real-Life Mystery Could Be The Answer

The real-life Roanoke Colony is infamous for its unexplained disappearance. One Reddit theory posits that From‘s Town may be the Lost Colony of Roanoke. One of the only clues left behind was a tree with the word “Croatoan” carved into it. When each resident becomes trapped in the Town, the first thing they see is a fallen tree on the road and a swarm of crows. This theory believes that this is a reference to the tree with the word “Croatoan” carved into it.

What Happened To Tom In From & Why His Ghost Appears To Jade

Tom returned in From season 3, episode 6, but what happened to him earlier in the series, and why did his ghost appear to Jade at the bottle tree?

The Roanoke Colony disappeared in the late 1500s. Jade’s visions of American Civil War soldiers, From‘s statues and huts in the woods, and other clues point to the Town having existed long before the 21st century, potentially as far back as the same time when the Roanoke Colony disappeared. While there are merits to this theory, there is not enough evidence that definitively points to it being the Lost Colony of Roanoke. It is more likely that the Town and its mysteries are an entirely original creation and not an explanation for a real-world historical mystery.

9 The Numbers Inside The Bottle Trees Are Addresses

They Could Be Tied To How The Faraway Trees Work

From‘s bottle trees contain slips of paper inside each bottle, with numbers written on them. A Reddit theory asserts that instead of the numbers being dates, they may be addresses, and that these addresses are needed to safely travel through the faraway trees. Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) took one of these slips in season 1 and had it on him when he traveled through a faraway tree. The lunchbox that Victor (Scott McCord) gave Tabitha had the address to his childhood home in Camden, Maine, which may have been why she was able to safely go through the faraway tree.

Meanwhile, Dale (Cliff Saunders) did not have any addresses on him when he went through the faraway tree, which could be why he was killed. The numbers being addresses seems more likely than them being dates. However, numbers by themselves are not enough to get someone to the right address. It is also important to remember that other characters, including Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) in season 1, survived going through a faraway tree without carrying an address with them.

8 Abby Was Sent To Save The Children Before Tabitha

Tabitha And Miranda May Not Have Been The Only Ones With This Mission

In the flashbacks that showed what happened to Boyd’s wife, Abby (Lisa Ryder), she mentions that she keeps thinking about a dream she had when she was a young girl. A Reddit theory points out that this sounds similar to Tabitha’s realization in From season 3, episode 6 that she had a recurring nightmare about the Town when she was a child. If Tabitha was destined to go to the Town to save the children trapped in the Tower, it is possible that Abby was destined to end up in the Town for the same reason.

The Town got the best of her and led her to believe that she needed to kill everyone in order for them to wake up and escape their living nightmare.

If this is true, Abby lost sight of her mission, or never understood it to begin with, as the Town got the best of her and led her to believe that she needed to kill everyone in order for them to wake up and escape their living nightmare. There is not enough to support the idea that Abby learned about the trapped children and that she was trying to save them. The dream Abby had as a child does suggest that she was always destined to end up in the Town, though.

7 The Kimono Woman Is Leading Elgin To A More Powerful Talisman

This Would Mean She Actually Wants To Help Elgin

This Reddit theory ties together several threads, including the ghost lady Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons) sees, the Lake of Tears, and the Talismans. There are many clues that the ghost lady died from drowning and the most probable place for a person to drown in the Town is the lake. She has also told Elgin that she can help save him and his friends. The theory suggests that the woman’s real corpse is in the lake and that she is holding a Talisman more powerful than the Talismans that the residents currently possess.

In the first episode, Ethan Matthews (Simon Webster) refers to the Lake of Tears, which is the name of a book where a powerful stone that can defeat evil is in a lake. A more powerful Talisman within the Town’s lake could do more than protect the residents inside their homes at night and could be the key to finding a way out of Town. This is a tantalizing theory, but it may be tying together too many story threads at once, and may overly rely on details from The Lake of Tears book in the Deltora Quest series.

6 The Boy In White Was A Former “Anghkooey” Kid

He Could Be Proof Of Miranda’s Partial Success

The Boy in White has been one of From‘s biggest mysteries since season 1, but this Reddit theory argues that the truth about him is connected to Miranda and the children who say, “Anghkooey.” The premise is that Miranda was partially successful in her quest to save the trapped children, with the Boy in White being one of the children she successfully saved. This could explain why the Boy in White has always been seemingly friendly and helpful to Victor, as Victor’s mother was the one who saved him.

Victor is one of the only residents who can see the Boy in White.

However, Miranda died before she could complete her mission, which is why Tabitha now has to save the rest of From‘s “Anghkooey” children. This theory answers several prominent mysteries in a compelling way and explains more about what Miranda did before her death. The one dubious part of the theory is that the Boy in White seems more sinister and manipulative than the “Anghkooey” children, who are just trapped and desperately want Tabitha’s help so they can be free.

5 Miranda Made A Deal To Keep Victor Safe

Victor May Have “Plot Armor” For A Good Reason

It is well-known that Victor has been in the Town longer than anyone, somehow surviving there for years on his own, even when he was just a child, and he did not have the Talismans for protection. This Reddit theory explores the possibility that this was only feasible because Miranda made a deal with the monsters, Christopher, or the Town itself to save Victor’s life. One of the monsters even acknowledged recently how they continue to let Victor stay alive, even when he goes into the tunnels.

This could explain the “plot armor” that Victor seems to have and why he has been allowed to live all these years while so many others have been killed, including the night where Miranda and every single other resident were massacred. Such an idea does do an effective job of addressing Victor’s longtime survival. The part that is more difficult to buy into is the monsters or the Town continuing to honor this agreement long after Miranda died and when there would be no repercussions for breaking the promise.

4 Henry Is From’s Overarching Villain

It Was Henry All Along

While Victor’s father, Henry (Robert Joy), seems like a kind man, this Reddit theory proposes that Henry is From‘s real villain. The argument is that Henry is an evil entity who was somehow cast out of the Town and has been trying to find his way back in. The Boy in White may be in league with the entity that is Henry, which is why the Boy in White pushed Tabitha out of the lighthouse, as he was sending her to unknowingly fetch Henry and bring him back to the Town.

“I Didn’t Know How To Get Home”: Victor’s Tragic From Story Just Got Even More Heartbreaking

Victor’s long-awaited reunion with Henry in From season 3, episode 5 makes his story even more devastating due to one heartbreaking line.

This would make the overarching villain more personal for From‘s characters, especially for Victor and Tabitha. It would significantly raise the stakes of the story moving forward and be a genuinely shocking and devastating plot twist. While it could work well in terms of the emotional storytelling and in heightening the overall tension, Henry being an evil entity does not align with many other details that have been established. He is most likely exactly who he claims to be, a kindly man who has been unexpectedly reunited with the son he thought died years ago.

3 Tabitha’s Nightmare Is Actually A Memory

This Could Explain Her Unique Connection To The Town

This Reddit theory posits that Tabitha’s recurring nightmare was not just a dream, but is a memory from her childhood. The idea is that Tabitha was in the Town as a child, somehow escaped and lost the memories of her time there, but her nightmares were reminding her of the truth. Tabitha clearly has a stronger connection to the Town than most of the other residents have, and her having been there as a child could explain the strength of that connection.

The theory also suggests that Tabitha may have been in the Town as a child before or during the same time as Victor. This seems less likely as Tabitha is significantly younger than Victor and the show would need to introduce time travel or some other means to address Tabitha’s lack of aging. Tabitha’s nightmare being the key to unlocking more mysteries is answered through this theory, but there are too many gaps in it for it to fully work.

2 The Boy In White And Jasper Are The Same Entity

This Could Be Another Form Of Manipulation

Both the Boy in White and the ventriloquist doll named Jasper are powerful and mysterious forces whose loyalties remain unclear. This Reddit theory argues that the Boy in White and Jasper are not two different entities, but are one and the same. It is also part of the entity’s manipulation, with the Boy in White offering false hope, including helping Victor survive and making Tabitha believe that she escaped the Town and made it into the real world.

This would also explain how a ventriloquist doll can be sentient, as it is actually just another guise that the Boy in White uses to torment and control various residents.

Meanwhile, Jasper is more obviously sinister, including in his manipulation of Christopher, but the Boy in White is just another form that the entity takes on to be manipulative. This would also explain how a ventriloquist doll can be sentient, as it is actually just another guise that the Boy in White uses to torment and control various residents. The theory answers major questions about the Boy in White and Jasper in one fell swoop, but is not as ironclad as another Jasper theory.

1 Jasper Won’t Talk To Victor Unless Jade Is There

Jade Has Seen The Ventriloquist Doll Before

Victor believes that Jasper, holds vital information that is needed to survive. According to this Reddit theory, Jasper will not talk to Victor until Jade is also present. Victor has memories of Jasper talking to Christopher, but this was at the point when Christopher had begun seeing the same symbol that Jade sees. Jasper may only speak to individuals who can see the symbol, and since Victor does not see it, he may need Jade to get Jasper to talk.

In season 2, Jade saw a vision of the symbol and of Jasper, which presents an association that still needs to be explained. Jasper’s vital information could finally explain what the symbol means and why Jade has been seeing it since season 1. Both Victor and Jade hold many of the same pieces to the larger puzzle that is From, but only together can they get Jasper to talk. This will allow them to see the full picture of what they have been missing all along and is one of the best theories about From season 3.
