15 Most Powerful Avengers Who Joined The Team in the Last Decade

The The Avengers have been one of Marvel’s most successful flagship properties since their real-world conception in 1963. Since then, the team has gone on to host nearly one hundred members in its ranks throughout multiple iterations and forms. Just in the last decade alone, the Avengers have frequently expanded the team throughout the frequently occurring apocalyptic comic events.

Most of the last decade’s Avengers additions have been drafted into the primary Avengers team or the relatively recently formed Avengers Unity Division. Strength, adaptability, endurance, and skill are all criteria a hero must meet before being accepted. Despite the team’s large number of previous members, it is a highly exclusive group. That said, not every Avenger stands equal to each other. Looking back at the last decade of comics, here are fifteen powerful Avengers who have joined in the last ten years.

1 Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes)

Joined In Avengers #6 (2018)

Every Ghost Rider is a powerhouse of the divine, regardless of their origin or the nature of their Spirit of Vengeance. After being shot to death while protecting his younger brother, Robbie Reyes was brought back to life through the lingering will of his deceased satanic uncle. Since then, despite being the youngest of the Ghost Riders, Robbie has transcended any and all original expectations of the character.

In the recent war against the First Firmament, Robbie transformed an entire planet into a Hell-Ride, using its mass to seal away the multiveral progenitor outside the multiverse. Robbie is the only Ghost Rider to date to have shown that level of control over that ability, now officially dubbed the “All-Rider.”

2 Starbrand (Brandy Selby)

Joined In Avengers #55 (2022)

“Brandy” Selby was the newest Starbrand before her noble sacrifice while defending the multiverse from the First Firmament. After the previous Starbrand, Kevin Connors, died under the weight of Robbie Reyes’s Penance Stare, the Starbrand was passed onto Brandy’s mother. Her mother would perish during childbirth, passing the cosmic object onto Brandy.

For unknown reasons, the Starbrand rapidly aged Brandy, transforming her into an elderly woman within years. To undo the cosmic horrors that the Multiversal Masters of Evil had wrought, Starbrand and the original Phoenix sacrificed themselves, combining their powers in an unparalleled cosmic burst of energy.

3 Thor / Valkyrie

Joined In All-New All-Different Avengers #1 (2015)

Jane Foster is probably Marvel’s best turnaround character, from side character to leading hero. After being granted the powers of Thor, Jane has continued to prove her worthiness of the title and her honorary Asgardian status. Through life and death, Jane has been one of the Avengers’ most valuable assets.

Suffering from late-stage cancer, every time Jane transformed she only exasperated her condition. Eventually passing the title of Thor back to Odinson, Jane pushed herself beyond curing to stop Malekith’s war against the Ten Realms. The war brought many casualties, including Asgard’s guides of the dead, the Valkyries. Transcending her mortal boundaries once more, Jane answered the call of those who had passed and became Asgard’s last Valkyrie.

4 Cable

Joined In Uncanny Avengers #3 (2016)

Following the war between the Avengers and the X-Men, Steve Rogers formed a new team called the Avengers Unity Division, a joint team of previous Avengers, X-Men, and Deadpool. In one of his apocalyptic futures, Cable joined the team after they failed to handle an M-Pox type disease. The son of Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor, Cable is an Alpha-level mutant, bordering on official Omega status.

Cable’s telepathic powers are only enhanced by the altered version of the techno-organic virus. Capable of precognition, astral projection, matter transmutation, concussive blasts, and of course time traveling, Cable is an unmatched mutant, far surpassing both of his parents’ potential.

5 Impossible City

Joined In Avengers #6 (2023)

Similar to how the X-Men once had Krakoa, the Avengers now claim their new base on this sentient multiverse-spanning city. Not much is known about the Impossible City. However, it has served as a reliable home for the Avengers, well outside of any national jurisdiction.

Not just a safe-haven for the Avengers and their compatriots, the Impossible City is a massive interstellar ship capable of traversing across the multiverse. What has once always been an exhausting task is now a simple feat for Earth’s Mightiest as new threats from alternate realities continue to make themselves known. As Marvel continues to embrace the rapidly expanding multiverse, readers will certainly see more of the Impossible City in the upcoming future.

6 Spider-Man (Miles Morales)

Joined In All-New All-Different Avengers #1 (2015)

Originally a citizen from the old Ultimate Universe, Miles Morales found a new footing as Spider-Man in Earth-616. While the hero is frequently compared to Peter Parker, both on and off the page, Miles has well evolved past most’s expectations. Armed with the same powers and strength as Peter Parker, Miles also possesses a few unique abilities of his own.

His most impressive personal power is his “ Venom Blast.” Miles is capable of generating extreme amounts of bio-electricity that he has learned to harness with extreme precision. While the ability packs a serious punch, he has also been shown to be able to create “physical” constructs from his bio-electricity like swords and threads.

7 Ms. Marvel

Joined in All-New All-Different Avengers #1 (2015)

Both an Inhuman and a mutant, Kamala Khan is one of Marvel’s biggest names to come from the early 2010s. To date, Kamala is the only person in Earth-616 to have this rare genetic hybridization. Her Inhuman ancestry is what gives her her iconic polymorphic powers, while her mutant lineage allows her to create physical constructs out of light.

Her combined powers make her an all-around adaptive and multi-talented hero. While she is young, there have been various iterations of the future showing Kamala’s insane growth in power. In one of her futures, she was the only person on Earth chosen to become the next Herald of Galactus.

8 Nova (Sam Alexander)

Joined In Nova #25 (2014)

Nova flies in space.

Despite his young age and general lack of experience, Sam Alexander has the potential to become Earth’s next great Nova protector. Like the others who share the title, Sam gets his powers from a Nova helmet, granting him access to the Nova Force. However, Sam’s helmet is rooted in a different power source than most.

Instead of being connected to the true Nova Corps, Sam is considered a Supernova, a black ops division of the Nova Corps who isn’t directly connected to the Xandarian Worldmind. However, Sam has been able to bypass this deviation and now possesses access to all the information that the Xandarians had ever gathered.

9 Doctor Voodoo

Joined In Avengers & X-Men: AXIS #9 (2014)

Master of the Voodoo arts and a prospective Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Voodoo is one of Marvel’s most powerful purveyors of the mystic arts. After adopting the spirit of his deceased brother, Jericho Drumm trained under his community’s resident houngan. As a houngan himself, Jericho has access to an entirely different world of necromantic and voodoo “white” magic than Marvel’s other well-known sorcerers.

Even Doctor Strange has noted that Doctor Voodoo’s magic might rival his own. Strange has also noted that only houngans like Jericho have access to voodoo magic, allowing Jericho to utilize an entirely different brand of magic in addition to the traditional mystic arts. Jericho has played a vital role in managing Marvel’s many mystical disasters, including the recent Blood Hunt event.

10 Monet

Joined In Uncanny Avengers #1 (2023)

While Monet is primarily an X-Man, she was drafted into Captain America’s Avengers Unity Division. While she doesn’t have an official power ranking, Monet’s mutant abilities should definitely be considered to be an Alpha-level at least. Her immediate powers range from superhuman physicality, to regeneration, to flight and to telepathy.

Her most prominent ability is her power to fuse with her siblings. Each of the St. Croix siblings possess different powers, but all have frequently existed within Monet. Combined with her two sisters and mutant-cannibal brother, Monet’s skin turns into crimson-red diamond and she develops a power resistance to telepathy. Outside of her mutant abilities, Monet is a supergenius that the X-Men have had to rely on frequently during their time in Krakoa.

11 Psylocke (Kwannon)

Joined in Uncanny Avengers #1 (2023)

Another addition to Captain America’s Avengers Unity Division, this version of Psylocke has a complicated backstory prior to her heroic status. While her true name is unknown, she is frequently referred to as Kwannon. Originally an assassin for the Hand, Kwannon had her body switched with Betsy Braddock, the original Psylocke.

After the transference, Kwannon went years believing that she was Betsy. While Kwannon was originally a low-level telepath, after switching bodies with, and later returning from, Betsy Braddock, her powers increased significantly. Her original powers developed into empathic telepathy, allowing her to read others’ minds. Additionally, Kwannon adopted Betsy’s psychic manifestation powers, which she often uses to generate knives and katanas.

12 Hazmat

Joined In Avengers #14 (2024)

Jennifer Takeda is a mutant whose already dangerous abilities were significantly empowered due to nazi-science experimentations. Hazmat’s body produces a variety of toxic and irradiating substances that would kill most people exposed to them. This has caused Jennifer to rely on a specially-made hazmat suit to contain her deadly byproduct.

After spending years training at the Avengers Academy, Hazmat officially joined the team during the Blood Hunt event. Unfortunately, Jennifer has yet to find a way to consistently neutralize or control her abilities, forcing her to spend most of her life in the suit and unable to form any close relationships without the fear of killing her friends and partners.

13 Human Torch

Joined In Uncanny Avengers #1 (2014)

While Johnny Storm is one of Marvel’s oldest superheroes, his tenure on superheroic teams has rarely ventured away from the Fantastic Four. However, after Reed Richards rebuilt a new cosmos following the destruction of the Multiverse, Reed altered Johnny’s mind to believe that he and Sue had died. Parting ways with the Thing, Johnny later joined the Avengers Unity Division as a representative for the Inhumans.

The Human Torch’s powers are well known but it’s his upper limits that are most impressive. If Johnny pushes his powers far enough, he is able to achieve supernova status for multiple hours straight. If he releases all of this latent energy at once, Johnny can create a powerful explosion that reaches close to 1,000,000° F. Of course, Johnny can use his powers to fly, pushing supersonic speeds capable of keeping up with the Silver Surfer.

14 Deadpool

Joined in Avengers #0 (2015)

Wade Wilson has spent years trying to figure out where he belongs. He frequently works with mutants but isn’t one himself. He spent decades trying to be an X-Man before Wolverine finally allowed him to join the X-Force.

He’s spent just as long trying to join the Avengers, but obviously has some incompatible branding issues. However, Deadpool gained a lot of popularity after Reed Richards recreated the multiverse and used his wealth and influence to buy a spot in the Avengers Unity Division. Despite his violent and unpredictable nature, Deadpool holds an extreme amount of respect and devotion to Captain America. Unfortunately, this also guided Deadpool to accidentally join Hydra’s Avengers after Steve Rogers was replaced with a fascist duplicate.

15 Wasp

Joined In Avengers #1 (2016)

Nadia Van Dyne stands in front of comic cover of the Wasp.

The current wielder of the “Wasp” title, Nadia Van Dyne plunged herself into heroism, believing that Hank Pym had sacrificed himself to stop Ultron. After the Second Civil War, Nadia and Kamala Khan joined the Avengers together, hoping to make a difference with a new generation. Like her parents, the Wasp can enable the Pym Particles in her blood to rapidly alter her size.

Preferring to decrease her mass, Nadia, much like her father, is a versatile fighter who uses her mass manipulation to deliver rapid decisive blows. Sadly, Nadia had a horrific upbringing after she was kidnapped and raised in the Red Room since infancy. She spent years in the Red Room program, developing her supergenius and combat skills, until she eventually learned of her parentage. Making use of black market Pym Particles, Nadia finally escaped, immediately beginning her lifelong goal to repent for the crimes she committed for the Red Room.
