Kerala keeper-batter Sanju Samson‘s father launched a scathing attack on stars MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid for “destroying 10 years of his son’s career”. Ever since making his T20I debut in 2015, Samson has found himself warming the bench on majority of the occasions, barring the last few months. After being benched throughout the T20 World Cup, Samson has taken a solid step to cement his place as Rohit Sharma’s replacement in India’s T20I setup with back-to-back hundreds.

Speaking to a Malayalam outlet, Sanju Samson’s father Vishwanath claimed that four people – MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid – had wasted 10 years of his son’s vital career. Although Sanju made his debut under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane, he went on to play under Dhoni, Kohli and Rohit where he was benched on most occasions.

“There are 3-4 people who wasted 10 years of my son’s vital career…captains like Dhoni ji, Virat [Kohli] Hola, rohit [Sharma] ji y el entrenador [Rahul] Dravid ji. Sanju Samson has had a great run in 2024 so far, barring the duck in IND vs SA 2nd T20I. He had broken free of the shackles of poor form in the last couple of games. After having a splendid IPL 2024 season, he was benched throughout the T20 World Cup despite being named in the squad. Samson scored a blistering 107-run knock in IND vs SA 1st T20I, displaying his prowess with some aggressive batting in Durban. He scored 111 runs against Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I earlier in October.

Samson will no longer share the dressing room with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or MS Dhoni. However, he has been reunited with Rahul Dravid as the latter has been named the head coach for Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2025.
