In the match, the 23-year-old Italian took control in the first set by breaking Fritz’s serve with a brilliant drop shot, moving to a 4-3 lead. He then sealed the first set with his 10th ace of the match. In the second set, Fritz struggled to keep up, hitting a forehand long to lose his serve again. Sinner capitalised on the opportunity, wrapping up the match in just 85 minutes.

Unbeaten in Turin

Sinner’s win at the ATP Finals was the culmination of a remarkable 2024 season. Despite facing a brief anti-doping controversy, he has been nearly unbeatable on the court. The Italian won 26 of his last 27 matches, claiming eight titles, including the ATP Finals. His victory in Turin also marked his 70th win of the season, making him the first player since Ivan Lendl in 1986 to win the ATP Finals without losing a set.

Sinner was visibly emotional after his win. “It’s amazing. Just an amazing week. For me, it’s a first title in Italy, so it means so much to me,” he said. “I just try to understand what works best for each opponent; try to play the best tennis possible. That was the key; I played a high-level tournament from my side.”

Fritz’s career high finish

Although Taylor Fritz lost the final, he had a great run and will leave Turin ranked a career-high fourth in the world. “I just want to say congrats to Jannik and his team. Insane year, honestly. It’s really impressive,” Fritz said. “Thank you to my team for putting up with me. It’s been a great week for me.”

Doubles title for Krawietz and Puetz

In the doubles final earlier in the day, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz triumphed over Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic, winning 7-6(5), 7-6(6). This victory made them the first German duo to win the ATP Finals doubles title.
