The most powerful families in anime can be complicated, to say the least. Sometimes they’re on the same side, other times they’re not. Families like the Briefs in Dragon Ball have stuck together through thick and thin, and even though Vegeta can be a curmudgeon, his wife Bulma knows exactly how to handle him. Other families, like the Uchiha in Naruto, aren’t as intimate but are equally, if not more, powerful. They act as a giant political force, controlling and influencing people around them to achieve their goals as a monolith.

The best families in anime don’t have to be related by blood either, as seen by the Forgers in Spy x Family. They’re a found family that chooses to be together, showing that not all bonds have to be determined by genes. No matter if an anime family is one cohesive unit, or a mismatch of characters that hate each other, they can be one of the strongest forces in their respective series.

10 The Elrics

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

The Elrics have had a pretty rough go of things, but brothers Alphonse and Edward are doing their best to survive and thrive in their new world. Their family is a pretty complicated one when counting the extraneous members, but it includes brothers Al and Ed, their mom Trisha, their disappearing father, Van Hohenheim, and Father, the main antagonist of the series, and the homunculus that tricked Van Hoheheim into immortality.

Edward is the youngest State Alchemist in history, proving his capability with Alchemy on numerous occasions. His younger brother Alphonse is no pushover, as he’s pretty good with alchemy in his own right. In his suit of armor, there aren’t many characters in the series that can hurt him. Together, even without their dad, they’ve been able to venture into the world and find a way to reverse the alchemy experiment that saw them lose Ed’s limbs and Al’s body altogether.

9 The Briefs

Dragon Ball

The Briefs are an adorable family that nobody would have seen coming at the beginning of Dragon Ball. Their family consists of Dr. Briefs and his wife Bikini, their daughters Tights and Bulma, and their grandkids Trunks and Bulla. This side of the family tree is incredibly intelligent, ultrarich, and brave enough to take on Earth’s foes with little to no powers, bar Trunks. The other side of the family tree is where the real strength begins, as it’s Vegeta’s side.

Vegeta’s family includes himself, his father, King Vegeta III, and his brother Tarble. Vegeta, by himself, is one of the strongest characters in the series. His son Trunks, and Future Trunks too, are also incredibly powerful in their own right. Together, they make up a family of both smart and strong characters, using their money, intelligence, and power to defeat their enemies.

8 The Zoldycks

Hunter x Hunter

The Zoldycks are a family of assassins in Hunter x Hunter. They’re elusive, mysterious, and altogether deadly. If someone sees a Zoldyck, or multiple Zoldycks at once, it probably means they’re going to die. The main members of the Zoldyck family include the head of the family Silva, his father Zeno, the oldest son Illumi, second son Milluki, third son and best friend to Gon Killua, and the mysterious Alluka, who is possessed by Nanika, and the youngest of the Zoldycks Kalluto.

Each of the members of the family is incredibly strong in their own right. Two of them are members of the Phantom Troupe, one of the most dangerous and elusive groups of characters in the series. Silva and Zeno usually don’t come out to fight, but when they do, they’re devastating. They were able to corner Chrollo Lucilfer, the leader of the Phantom Troupe, with relative ease. Zeno was also there when Netero needed his help taking down the Chimera Ants, proving how strong and reliable he was.

7 The Forgers

Spy x Family

The Forger family is an interesting family, to say the least. They’re a family of choice that’s found their way towards one another through incredibly lucky circumstances, given how well everything has worked out. Their main members include Loid, Yor, Anya, and their trusty dog Bond. While that seems normal enough on the surface, which is exactly what the family wants, it’s actually anything but. Loid is the world’s greatest spy who goes by the code name Twilight.

Yor is an expert assassin who goes by the code name Thorn Princess. Anya is a little girl who can read minds thanks to some unscrupulous experiments, and Bond the Dog can see into the future thanks to similar experiments. While they don’t know the extent of each other’s powers, except for Anya, as she’s already read everyone’s mind, they use their skills to protect one another. Each member of the family cares for one another more than they all think, creating an equally adorable yet deadly family unit.

6 The Vermillions

Black Clover

There are plenty of powerful, noble families in Black Clover, but none of them are as strong as the Vermillions. The Silvas are a close second, with Nozel Silva being fairly equal to Fuegoleon in terms of power and leadership abilities. Leopoldo is also less strong than Noelle, but that’s not why the Vermillions are so strong. They’re powerful because of Mereoleona, a walking one-man-army and one of the strongest characters in Black Clover. She’d easily defeat both Nozel and Noelle in battle, while Nebra and Solid would slow their siblings down.

The Vermillions command fire. The fire spirit, Salamander, has even chosen Fuegoleon as his new host, giving him a distinct advantage over his silver-haired rival. As the leader of the Crimson Lions, Fuegoleon is also no stranger to commanding numerous troops at once. He’s an excellent fighter, a noble warrior, and one of the first characters to see Asta’s real value.

5 The Joestars (JoJos)

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

While some of the Joestars might have a different last name, like Josuke Higashikata, they’re all JoJos at heart. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is centered around the Joestar family, following a different generation in each series. It starts with the magnanimous Jonathan, before moving on to the less honorable Joseph, then the hugely popular Jotaro, then Josuke, then the ultra-cool Giorno, followed by the tenacious Jolyne in the anime.

Each of the Joestars is brave in battle, willing to do what it takes to defend their friends, and strong enough to stand up to whatever threat comes their way. They’re each hot-headed, aggressive fighters with plenty of pride to back them up. When they work together, the Joestars are nearly unstoppable. With the help of a Speedwagon or a Zeppeli by their side as well, nobody can stop a JoJo.

4 The Yeagers

Attack on Titan

The Yeagers are another anime family that gets along less than well. Their main family consists of father Grisha Yeager, another one of the worst dads in anime, Zeke Yeager, the Beast Titan and commander of Marley’s forces, and Eren Yeager, death incarnate. Grisha spread his hatred onto his two children, who then amplified it and spread it across the world. He realizes what he did much too late, as Eren convinces him to see ‘their’ mission through and slaughter the Reiss family.

Each of the Yeagers is responsible for the deaths of countless innocents, none more so than Eren. They’re all incredibly powerful in their Titan forms, but Eren takes the cake. By enacting The Rumbling, Eren was able to see his goal through and kill 80% of the world’s population, something neither his father nor his brother could have seen coming.

3 The Hanma

Baki

The Hanma family is one of the least family-like families in anime. They consist of Yuichiro Hanma, the grandfather of the family, Yujiro Hanma, the strongest man in the world, Baki Hanma, the main character and up-and-coming strongest, and Jack Hammer/Hanma, an American bodybuilder with muscles bigger than most other characters. Yujiro’s goal was to create someone stronger than him, so he had Baki. His life’s mission is to raise someone strong enough to defeat him in battle, making him one of the worst dads in anime.

Baki has dedicated himself to avenging his mother’s death by killing his father. They battle constantly, with Baki making little to no progress against the Ogre. Eventually, they come to see close to eye-to-eye when Yujiro beats Baki’s body in battle, but Baki beats his father’s spirit, proving he’s strong enough to be his equal.

2 The Uchiha

Naruto

The Uchiha are the strongest clan in Naruto. While they’re not an intimate family like the Briefs or the Forgers, they’re an entire clan that was once capable of overthrowing the entire village of Konoha. Their strongest members include the godfather of the clan Madara, who is arguably the strongest villain in Naruto, the annihilator of the clan Itachi, the reincarnation of a ninja God Sasuke, a person who can manipulate reality in Shisui, and many more.

Each of the Uchiha brings a different ability to the table. Sasuke’s abilities are different from his brother Itachi’s, but that doesn’t make either of them any less formidable. While Sasuke usually tries to take his opponent head-on, Itachi likes to play mind games. He wants to trap his opponents in an eternal Genjutsu, killing them brutally over what feels like centuries.

1 Goku’s Family (The Son Family)

Dragon Ball

Goku’s family is easily the strongest in anime, and it might solely be because of Goku himself. Goku is one of the strongest characters in anime period, and with his family by his side, there’s next to nobody who can take them down. Goku’s main family includes him, his son Gohan (a character stronger than his dad at points in the series, his other son Goten, his dad Bardock, his mom Gine, his brother Raditz, his granddaughter Pan, his father-in-law the Ox King, his daughter-in-law Videl, and even his adopted grandfather Gohan.

Goku’s family is filled with good guys, bad guys, and some characters that fall in between. Most of them are Saiyans and Goku and his kids can all transform into the legendary Super Saiyan form, immediately putting them in another class than their opponents.
