Nitish Reddy reveals Gambhir’s mantra for bouncers in IND vs AUS 1st Test

Speaking after the end of play on Day 1, Nitish Reddy revealed that Gambhir had asked him to treat a bouncer like “taking a bullet for the country”. He said that the ex-Indian cricketer had told him to just play any bouncer over his shoulder, adding that it was the “best thing”.

I was having a chat with Gautam Gambhir sir. He told me, any bouncer just play it over your shoulder. Take it like a bullet for your country. That’s the best thing,” Nitish Reddy said.

Reddy dealt well with the extra bounce and pace offered by the surface and managed to hold fort with some display of rock solid defence and good leaving technique. India’s horror show with bat on Day 1

India’s top-order once again faltered, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (0) being the first batter to depart. Devdutt Padikkal attempted to ward off 22 deliveries without opening his account before he was sent packing in the next one. Virat Kohli’s troubles with the bat continued as he was caught off a delivery that got extra bounce from the Perth surface.

KL Rahul was dismissed in a controversial manner, with the third umpire making a horrible decision, thanks to “poor supply of technology”. Josh Hazlewood finished with a spell of 4/29 while Starc, Cummins and Marsh picked up 2 wickets each to wrap up India’s innings for 150.
