In the epic world of Baldur’s Gate 3 there is plenty of loot to be found to fully equip the whole party. From unique armor and weapons to spell scrolls and potions, vendors can be a great source for amazing items in BG3.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Baldur’s Gate 3.]

From the beginning to the very end of Baldur’s Gate 3, there are amazing bargains to be had and fantastic gear to be found with the game’s various merchants. However, not all merchants are equal, and while the party should visit as many as they can for the best deal, some of the traders in BG3 are better than others. Whether because they have unique items that can’t be found anywhere else or because they will offer the best deals when selling the party’s collected treasure, these merchants are the best to keep an eye out for.

15 Mystic Carrion Has Goods For Spellcasters

An Unusual Merchant Worth Checking Out

Although Mystic Carrion isn’t the easiest merchant to run across in Baldur’s Gate 3, the hassle of getting to him tends to pay off. Found inside Philgrave’s Mansion, which the party doesn’t exactly have permission to enter, this Mummy Lord cuts a more intimidating figure than most traders.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Act 3 Checklist (Everything You Don’t Want To Miss)

In Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3, players finally arrive in the big city. With dozens of quests and encounters, keeping track of everything can be tricky.

The main point of entering Philgrave’s Mansion isn’t doing business, but there’s still some good loot to buy off of Mystic Carrion. If Halsin or Jaheira is in the party and following the Circle of the Spores, they could make great use of the Armour of the Sporekeeper, and the Hood of the Weave is a strong option for wizards or spellcasters in general. A fully martial party wouldn’t get much out of stopping by Mystic Carrion, however, and Philgrave’s Mansion is definitely one of the more situational shopping destinations overall.

14 Ferg Drogher Is Easy To Miss

A Merchant Who Isn’t Hawking His Wares

Sharran lookout speaking to Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3.

Ferg Drogher can be found early in Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3, dealing in the Rivington area outside the city proper. He’s certainly worth visiting if Shadowheart is in the party, but even if she’s not, taking a look at his wares can prove fruitful. Getting Ferg to sell his goods requires either having a Shar-loyal Shadowheart in the party or successfully rolling a Persuasion check, so a bit of luck is involved in this case.

Ferg Drogher has several fantastic weapon options for a few different purposes. The Cold Snap is a great dagger for those who need an off-hand powerhouse, the Dwarven Throweris a warhammer that’s perfect for any character that would generally have fun with something called a Dwarven Thrower, and the Hellrider Longbow has strong bonuses for dungeon crawling purposes.

13 Araj Oblodra Takes An Unusual Payment Method

Blood Can Be As Good As Gold

The drow blood chemist Araj Oblodra smiles slyly in Baldur's Gate 3

Although Moonrise Towers can quickly become a very hostile place in Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s possible to run through it peacefully when the party first arrives. The location plays host to a number of NPCs that are worth meeting, and as far as merchants go, Araj Oblodra is one of the standouts.

The best order to proceed through Act 2 in Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t always clear, but one approach makes it possible to avoid missing content.

While Araj isn’t the best stop for general trade, she offers a unique proposition. In exchange for the blood of True Souls, she’ll create some powerful elixirs, and she’s especially keen to get her hands on Astarion’s blood. Giving her the latter might not be worthwhile for those who care deeply about Astarion, as it clearly steps over some of his boundaries, but checking out what she has to offer is a must.

12 Figaro Pennygood Can End Up Indebted To The Party

Free Favor Is Great For Prices

Baldur's Gate 3 Figaro speaking to player in Facemakers dye shop

Building strong relationships with merchants is a great way to get discounts in Baldur’s Gate 3, but it’s not something that most parties will pursue across the board. With so many different shops on the table, working hard on winning the favor of an individual trader isn’t always worthwhile. With Figaro Pennygood, however, there’s an easy way to max out affection and then lean on that metric for favorable pricing.

Figaro Pennygood is one of the targets of the murders happening in Baldur’s Gate, and saving his life unsurprisingly endears him to the party. Figaro runs the clothing store known as the Facemaker’s Boutique, so although he might not have any weapons or potions for sale, he provides great one-stop-shop for the fashion-conscious.

11 Lady Esther Has Some Great Magical Items

The Rosymorn Monastery Trail Shouldn’t Be Skipped

Lady Esther, an old human woman, raises her eyebrows in a screenshot from Baldur's Gate 3.

Lady Esther’s main role in Baldur’s Gate 3 is her part in the Githyanki Egg side quest, but that’s not the only thing she has to offer in Act One. She’s also a trader, and her limited supply includes some appealing magical items. Lady Esther can be found on the Rosymorn Monastery Trail, which can be taken as an alternate road to the Underdark or revisited in Act Two.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Are Still Missing Out On A Key Area

At the end of Baldur’s Gate 3’s first act, the party is told to choose between the Mountain Pass or the Underdark, but they can actually visit both.

The Periapt of Wound Closure is one of Lady Esther’s wares that might be familiar to Dungeons & Dragons fans, automatically stabilizing downed party members at the start of their turns. Cacophony and Hoppy are a couple of interesting weapons that she has on hand, and several different pieces of armor offer some strong benefits like a Dexterity boost or additional Fire damage. As for the Githyanki Egg, though, that’s one trade that might be best avoided.

Volo Will Trade If Surgery Is Refused

Volo will join the party camp in Baldur’s Gate 3 after being rescued from the goblins and will offer to help with the removal of the mind flayer parasite. If agreed to, Volo will do his best, fail, and give the unlucky patient Volo’s Ersatz Eye before leaving.

However, if his offer of amateur surgery is not taken, he will stay in camp until the end of Act 2, where he can be traded with. Volo doesn’t have a huge array of items, but he does stock five Potions of Animal Speaking that will refresh and randomly assigned spell scrolls, which can sometimes include some high-level spells for Gale to learn.

9 Arron Is An Excellent Low-Level Merchant

Stock Up On Camp Supplies

Arron in the Druid Grove will likely be the first merchant many meet during any playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3. Arron has some great stock for low-level characters, in particular, the Gloves of Missile Snaring.

Arron will have better prices for druid characters, as his disposition towards them will be slightly higher.

These rare gloves allow the wearer to use a reaction to reduce incoming damage from ranged weapon attacks by 1d10 plus their Dexterity modifier. If the magical items he sells don’t tickle the party’s fancy, Arron also stocks plenty of potions, arrows, and camp supplies for the journey ahead.

Complete Their Quest To Unlock The Trader

Down in the Underdark, in the Myconid Colony, is an illithid named Omeluum who is studying the area with their companion Blurg. Omeluum will offer to help the party with their tadpole, and if the party completes the quest, they will offer to give the party a Ring of Mind-Shielding.

While it is possible to convince Omeluum to hand over the ring, it is better to trade with them, as the mind flayer scholar has some great items. In particular, the Pearl of Power Amulet, which lets the wearer restore a spell slot of third level or lower, and the Ring of Salving, which restores additional hit points each time the wearer heals others.

7 Lann Tarv Offers The Best Value For Money

Passing A Skill Check Offers Better Prices

Lann Tarv is a bugbear who can be found inside Moonrise Towers in BG3‘s Act 2. Lann is interesting as a merchant as it is possible to increase his disposition towards the party to 100 by passing a skill check, therefore giving the best possible prices.

With the highest possible attitude, Lann will sell at lower prices but also buy at the highest, meaning he is one of the best merchants in the game to sell to.

Hard To Find But Worth The Trip

Skittle the rat merchant in Baldur's Gate 3

Skittle is a merchant that only a few will meet when playing BG3, as he can only be found in Heapside Prison in a cell. However, Skittle is not a prisoner and is, in fact, a rat who can be spoken to and traded with using speak with animals.

Skittle will speak in rat-based puns and sells the key to Counting House Safe number two as well as the Elixir of Universal Resistance. The elixir does exactly as it sounds and grants resistance to all damage for 10 rounds in combat, making it extremely useful in the final battle of BG3.

Can Be Found In All Three Acts

In Act 1, Roah can be found in the Shattered Sanctum close to Priestess Gut’s quarters, where, among other items, they sell the awesome Blooded Greataxe, which deals extra damage when the wielder has less than 50% of their hit points.

Roah can later be found in Act 2 in Moonrise Towers with extra stock in addition to any previously unsold items from Act 1. Finally, Roah returns in Act 3 as part of the quest to recruit Minsc. Here, she will only briefly act as a trader if she is sided against Nine-Finger Keene but has no new items.

Lorroakan’s Projection is an illusory form of Lorroakan that can be found manning the counter of Sorcerous Sundries, if Rolan was killed earlier in the game. This magical trader has some fantastic items for spellcasters, including many high-level spell scrolls.

If Rolan if alive, he will take the place of the projection. If Lorroakan is killed during the Nightsong quest, the projection will act as a merchant after Rolan takes over the store but will only sell scrolls.

Ones to keep an eye out for are Scroll of Chain Lightning, Scroll of Sunbeam, and Scroll of Disintegrate, all of which are very useful against Act 3 BG3 bosses. He may not be the most likable figure in the game, but that doesn’t make his wares any worse.
