Delhi Capitals (DC) are set to part ways with their long-time assistant coach Pravin Amre ahead of the IPL 2025 season. This just happens to be one of many changes DC have made with the GMR Group (co-owners), taking over the franchise for the next two seasons. Ricky Ponting has been replaced as head coach by Hemang Badani, and Venugopal Rao has taken over Sourav Ganguly as the Director of Cricket.

Change in ownership at DC

Amre’s four-year contract with DC has come to an end, and both parties have decided to stop working together amicably. No one at GMR doubts his dedication and hard work, but an overhaul means he might not get a major role. Already working as the head coach of the Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket (MLC), Amre is probably looking to upgrade rather than downgrade.

“In Amre’s case, his parting with DC is mutual, as the franchise owners have always liked the hard work he has put in building Gen-Next players for the team. His four-year contract with the franchise has come to an end. GMR, who are supposed to run the team for the next two years, might still give him a new role in the fresh set-up, but it’s unlikely to be a direct role with the Delhi Capitals, as it was earlier,” a source told the Times of India.

Unearthed Pant, Shreyas & Shaw for DC

Pravin Amre has been part of DC since 2015. He left for one year (2020 with the Mumbai Indians) and then to the franchise as their assistant coach and talent scout. He’s found talents like Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, and Khaleel Ahmed. Not only have these players found success for DC but also gone on to represent India. His domestic success with Mumbai, India A, and India U-19 can’t be undermined either, and it was one of the reasons why DC made the Playoffs in 2019 after 7 years.

“Amre was instrumental in getting Shreyas Iyer to DC in 2015, and then the likes of Rishabh Pant, Khaleel Ahmed, and Prithvi Shaw all were recommended highly by him. He was basically the main link between the domestic players and DC’s previous head coach, Ricky Ponting. He helped the Indian players find their feet in the world of IPL, helping them grow fast,” another source told the Times of India.
