KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! is the funniest isekai series of all time. It features one of the most frustratingly lovable cast of characters, a world filled with mystery, and some of the best writing in anime, all genres included. When Satou Kazuma is transported to his new world, he’s allowed to bring any one thing with him. When the Goddess Aqua laughs at him during this process, he decides to take her instead, creating a hilarious dynamic within the first episode.
To be a great show like KonoSuba, an isekai series needs to have some element of humor. It also needs to have good animation, and at least decent writing. While no show can truly compare with KonoSuba’s outrageous humor, some can get close. Still, there are plenty of isekai series out there that are great for anyone who loves watching Kazuma, Darkness, Aqua, and Megumin bumble their way to success.
10 Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy
Animated By C2C, Based on the Light Novel Series Written By Kei Azumi and Illustrated By Mitsuaki Matsumoto
Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy is another great, funny isekai series. Misumi Makoto was transported to his new world, but the Goddess who brought him there thought he was too ugly to be useful. She took away his ability to communicate with other humans (called hyumans in the new world), and sent him to the furthest wasteland away from civilization. Over time, he grows to be one of the strongest characters in Tsukimichi, gaining a great band of side characters that support him through everything.
Satou Kazuma and Misumi Makoto don’t have a lot in common on the surface. Makoto is incredibly overpowered, while Kazuma has died several times within his own series. Still, they’ve both found a place for themselves within their new worlds. They rely on the characters around them when they’re not too sure of what’s going on, and they’re both much better for it.
9 Drifters

Drifters is an unhinged isekai series, to say the least. It’s by the same creator of Hellsing Ulitmate and his style can be found throughout both series. Drifters is a series that features the titular Drifters as they find their way to a new world and a new war. Each of the Drifters is a warrior from a different time period, creating a unique blend of characters not found in other anime. They fight together voraciously, taking down their enemies in great, graphic violence.

10 Darkest Isekai Anime Series Every Fan Needs To Watch
Grimgar of Fantasy of Ash and The Twelve Kingdoms are two of the darkest shows in anime, but which show takes the top spot?
Drifters is darkly funny. It’s not for the faint of heart, and that’s what makes the series so great. While KonoSuba has relatively clean comedy, outside of a few lewd moments, Drifters couldn’t be dirtier. Characters cuss so much that sailors would be impressed. The humor in Drifters is found everywhere, making it a decent comparison to the hilarity that is KonoSuba.
8 Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
Animated By A-1 Pictures, Based on the Light Novel Series Written By Ao Jūmonji and Illustrated by Eiri Shirai
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is probably the most realistic isekai series around. It features a cast of normal, unassuming characters as they’re whisked away to a world of might and magic. They’re wholly unprepared for the experience, and it shows. While most isekai series might give their main characters exciting powers, or a new way to adapt to their world, Grimgar specifically doesn’t. It features brutal, realistic moments viewers can’t help but relate to. It’s one of the darkest anime of all time.
KonoSuba is a lot more light-hearted than Grimgar, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good comparisons. Satou Kazuma has some magical abilities, but he’s not as strong as most isekai characters. He’s a normal guy just trying to live his life in a strange new world, similar to the cast of Grimgar. He also has nobody to rely on but his new friends, leaning on them whenever he doesn’t know what’s going on.
7 Kemono Michi
Animated By ENGI, Based on the Manga Written By Natsume Akatsuki and Illustrated By Mattakumo-suke and Yumeuta
Kemono Michi is another series from the same writer of KonoSuba, Natsume Akatsuki. It actually came a few years after he wrote KonoSuba, giving it more recency than the author’s previous series. Kemono Michi is equally as absurd as KonoSuba, and that’s what makes it so great. When famed wrestler Genzo Shibata is transported to a new world, the world’s princess tasks him with becoming a Beast Killer, taking down all the beasts plaguing their kingdom.

Even with the oversaturation of the genre, there are still plenty of excellent isekai anime shows that every fan should consider streaming.
As an animal lover, Genzo answers her request by knocking the princess out with a German Suplex. Like KonoSuba, Kemono Michi is hilarious from the start. It wastes no time establishing its insane premise, and it’s all the better for it. Both series feature a unique isekai protagonist that goes against the grain, doing what he wants regardless of the consequences.
6 No Game No Life
Animated By Madhouse, Based on the Light Novel Series by Yuu Kamiya
No Game No Life is a cult classic of isekai anime. It’s been over 10 years since the first season of the anime was adapted and fans are still waiting for more adaptations. Sora and Shiro are too smart for their own good. They’re so smart that they can’t find anyone to beat them in online video games, teaming up as ‘Blank’ and winning every game they touch. When they’re transported to the world of Disboard, the pair couldn’t be happier.
Sora and Shiro finally have an opportunity to display their skills on a world level, and they finally have worthy adversaries. It’s another one of the funniest isekai series of all time thanks to great writing and a hilarious world that the characters find themselves in. Like Kazuma from KonoSuba, Sora and Shiro can’t help but rely on their friends when things get hard. If it wasn’t for Stephanie Dola, the pair would probably be hopeless in their new world.
5 Combatants Will Be Dispatched!
Animated By J.C. Staff, Based on the Light Novel Series Written By Natsume Akatsuki and Illustrated By Kakao Lanthanum
Combatants Will Be Dispatched! is another isekai series from the same creator of KonoSuba and Kemono Michi, Natsume Akatsuki. All of the series’ greatest strengths lie in their writing, making Combatants Will Be Dispatched! an immediate comparison to KonoSuba. The series actually came out before KonoSuba, making it one of Akatsuki’s first works. Combatants Will Be Dispatched! is another series with a solid premise from the beginning.
When the Kisaragi Corporation has basically dominated all the Earth, they set their sights on distant, fantasy lands that they can also conquer. They send Combat Agent 6 and Alice to help the Corporation establish a new foothold in this strange world. Not too long after arriving, the pair are conscripted into the new world’s military, creating an interesting dynamic that never lets up. Combat Agent 6’s antics are always funny, and, thankfully, Alice is right there to set him straight.
4 Re:Zero
Animated By White Fox, Based on the Light Novel Series Written By Tappei Nagatsuki and Illustrated By Shin’ichirō Ōtsuka
Re:Zero is easily one of the darkest anime around. Natsuki Subaru was transported to his new world and given one of the most bittersweet powers in anime, Return by Death. While he can return to a predetermined point in time, allowing him to essentially rewrite reality, he has to die to do so. Each of his deaths are increasingly brutal, but even death itself isn’t enough to keep Subaru down. He’s a light hearted character in a world filled with downers, and his always positive attitude is a great reason to watch the series.
It might not seem like it, but Re:Zero has plenty of funny moments. Subaru is always willing to have a laugh, even at his own expense, creating a fun and lighthearted environment for everyone. Surprisingly, both Subaru and Kazuma have died more than a few times, with Subaru’s deaths being much more severe.
3 The Cautious Hero is Overly Cautious
Animated By White Fox, Based on the Light Novel Series Written By Light Tuchihi and Illustrated By Saori Toyota
Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered, But Overly Cautious is a fantasy anime series that follows the story of Seiya Ryuuichi, a powerful hero who is summoned to the world of Gaeabrande to save it from destruction. Despite his incredible abilities, Seiya is extremely cautious and meticulous in his approach, often prioritizing safety and preparation over bold action.

The Cautious Hero is Overly Cautious, like KonoSuba, is a series that benefits greatly from absurdity. The premise is great right away. When the Goddess Ristarte is looking for a hero to save the world of Gaeabrande from a Demon Lord, she looks to a pool of potential heroes who might help her. She finds Seiya Ryuuguuin, a hero with incredible stats, and summons him to help her. Unfortunately for the Goddess, the hero is cautious to a fault.
It’s a similar dynamic to Kazuma and Aqua’s in KonoSuba, as Aqua probably found the worst person for the job in Kazuma. Both series have great dynamics between the Goddess and the ‘heroes’ they summoned to their new world. The writing is both shows is funny, the animation is solid, and the story gets more and more interesting and either series progresses.
2 That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
Animated By Eight Bit, Based on the Light Novel Series Written By Fuse, and Illustrated By Mitz Vah
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is another solid isekai series. Rimuru Tempest was transported to a new world as a lowly slime without any real abilities. After some time, he grows to become one of the strongest characters in his series, creating tons of new technology for his nation of Tempest. He’s a thoughtful leader, a strategic fighter, and a benefactor of the world. While he and Kazuma don’t share too many similarities in terms of their characters, their series have a lot of the same themes.

Both shows are lighthearted. They never take themselves too seriously, except when one of Rimuru’s friends is hurt. Other than the occasional destruction of an entire army, Rimuru is a chill, laid-back leader who only wants the best for his troops and his people. Kazuma could learn a lot from how responsible the Great Leader of Tempest really is.
1 The Eminence in Shadow
Animated By Nexus, Based on the Light Novel Series Written By Daisuke Aizawa and Illustrated By Tōzai
The Eminence in Shadow follows the story of Cid Kagenou, a recluse who reincarnates into a fantasy world and seeks to live a life of obscurity, but unwittingly becomes a legendary figure known as the Eminence in Shadow, feared by evil organizations and admired by the masses.

The Eminence in Shadow is the best isekai series for anyone who wants something close to KonoSuba. When Shadow was isekai’d to his new world, he couldn’t have been happier. He spent his previous life on Earth trying to be the cool, enigmatic, titular Eminence in Shadow, but he could never pull it off. Now in his new world, he has the powers he’s always wanted. He’s able to fly through the air, launch devastating “I Am Atomic” abilities, and lead the covert Shadow Garden like a true man of mystery.
Just like KonoSuba, The Eminence in Shadow is at its best when it’s absurd. It’s a solid comparison as both series feature great writing, plenty of powerful characters, and a main character so involved in his own world he doesn’t care to see the one right outside of him. While Kazuma relies on his companions a little more than Shadow does, they both have great side characters willing to support them through thick and thin.
