Summary

  • Peacock offers a robust catalog of movies and TV shows, with new additions each month, making it one of the largest streaming collections available.
  • Peacock has become a multifaceted platform, featuring live-streaming sports and striking lucrative deals with major leagues like MLB, Premiere League, and WWE.
  • In August 2024, Peacock is adding over 100 new movies and TV shows, including Hallmark romance movies and new action movies like Polite Society and The Fall Guy.

Peacock features a robust catalog of movies and TV shows, with even more coming to the streaming service in August 2024. Launched to great fanfare in 2020, Peacock changed the streaming game with its mixture of free and paid content, and the streamer was able to land top-tier shows like The Office because of its NBC affiliation. In the years since its debut, Peacock has further expanded its reach by including many hit films on its platform, and it offers one of the largest streaming collections available. Like most streaming services, Peacock’s catalog isn’t stagnant, and each month the streamer adds dozens of new shows and movies to keep things fresh.

Additionally, Peacock has also become a home for live-streaming sports, and their lucrative deals with the MLB, Premiere League, and World Wrestling Entertainment have made them a truly multifaceted platform. The best TV shows on Peacock represent the upper echelon of streaming entertainment, and the service has begun to create memorable series and movies that rival the original content of their competitors. In August 2024, more than 100 movies and TV shows are new to Peacock, and that’s excluding live sporting events, but in July, the streamer’s most popular content continued to be reality TV on the platform and shows that were available to stream the next day like Law & Order: SVU. Abigail also made a jump to the number 1 movie on the platform when it was added. It’s possible some of the August additions could change that.

The 30 Best Movies On Peacock (August 2024)

Peacock has a wide variety of movies available to stream, with popular, award-winning, and genre-defining films in any genre a cinephile could want.

The Best Movies And Shows Arriving On Peacock This Month

Clueless – August 1

Clueless helped to define a generation of teen movies. With its own slang and a stellar cast that includes Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd, Clueless captured the hearts of a generation of teenagers and then continued to thrive as something of a cult classic.

The movie is a loose adaptation of the Jane Austen novel Emma with Silverstone’s Cher as the affluent young woman who likes to meddle in the love lives of her friends, but has bad luck in her own. From a modern standpoint, the ‘90s teen rom-com might be predictable, but it’s very much comfort food for those who grew up with the movie. For those who didn’t, it’s a snapshot of a very unique time in teen cinema as it ushered in a golden age of teen movies in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Shrek – August 1

Peacock keeps a lot of the Dream Works movies in regular rotation just like they do the Illumination movies. The Shrek movies come and go from Peacock periodically as other streaming sites gain access to the movies. Shrek 2 and 3 have been on Peacock for a while, so it makes sense that the first of the Shrek movies would return to the platform now.

This first movie sets the tone for the entire franchise, introducing the lovable Ogre, the talking Donkey, and a whole host of fairy tale characters like the audience hadn’t seen before. Shrek makes for a fresh take on the fairy tale ideas that the audience already knows, turning a member of royalty into the villain and an ogre into a hero. It also is chock full of pop culture references and more mature humor, making it as fun for adults as it is for kids.

Fast & Furious Franchise – August 1 And 12

Like many of the movies owned by NBC-Universal, the Fast and Furious franchise can often be found on Peacock. The streamer, however, does remove the movies, or even just some of them, when they have deals to stream on other platforms. With the nine main movies of the franchise available on Peacock at the same time, this is the most complete the franchise has been on a streaming platform at one time.

Fans can watch from the very beginning as Paul Walker’s Brian goes undercover to infiltrate a ring of creative thieves all the way to Vin Diesel’s Dom reuniting with his long lost brother 30 years after they went their separate ways. The franchise has become more outrageous with each installment, and fans can binge the ride, the adrenaline increasing with each movie.

Bel-Air – August 15

When a remake of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was originally announced for Peacock in 2021, many were surprised that the new series would be a drama instead of a comedy. Though the characters and the premise were still the same, the tone of the show and many of the situations the characters found themselves in were very different. The series was updated to reflect a modern mentality and some of the struggles of today. That decision worked, making the show one of the most popular Peacock originals.

The series returns for season 3 in August on Peacock. The first two episodes will premiere on August 15, bringing the Banks family back together after the turmoil of lies and separation in the second season. Following that two-episode premiere, new episodes will be available to stream on Peacock weekly throughout the month.

Polite Society – August 16

Polite Society is an English action movie that acts as a love letter to women working in stunt acting. It follows a young British-Pakastani woman who dreams of a career as a stunt person. She writes letters about a potential mentorship to Eunice Huthart (who appears as herself) and films martial arts videos of herself to help toward her goal. It seems, however, that her world begins to fall apart when her sister accepts a matchmaking scheme and becomes engaged after only a few weeks.

She becomes convinced that her big sister’s future in-laws have something nefarious in mind. While she investigates and puts all of the skills she’s learned for her possible stunt career to use, there’s a twist to the story that certainly surprises the audience, but also allows for the movie to blend its genres. Polite Society takes inspiration from feminist stories, martial arts classics, and even Bollywood spectacles, to create a great fusion that is fun to watch.

The Fall Guy – August 30

The Fall Guy is also a love letter to stunt performers in the movie industry. While Polite Society focuses on sisterly bonds, however, The Fall Guy focuses on an established performer and his former romantic relationship with a movie director. He gets roped into tracking down the star of her film.

The movie blends action elements with romantic comedy to great effect. It also features some stellar comedic timing and chemistry between Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling, which will certainly make the audience wish to see them in more movies together. The Fall Guy will be available exclusively on Peacock for streaming.

Beyond that, Peacock has another incentive for movie fans to stream The Fall Guy. In addition to the theatrical version of the movie, Peacock will also have an extended version of the movie available to stream.

Olympic And Paralympic Coverage – Throughout August

Peacock continues to be the official home for all streaming coverage of the Olympics and Paralympics games. While the Olympic coverage began in July, it will run through August 11. Peacock will stream the closing ceremonies on that day. Paralympic coverage begins on August 28 with the opening ceremony.

Throughout the month of July, episodes of television that air on NBC-Universal owned networks will also air on Peacock the next day. The streaming service is also the home to stream other sporting events as well, but their availability on Peacock depends on their schedules.

Clueless

A modern reimagining of Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma, the iconic teen comedy Clueless stars Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz, a rich and popular high schooler who takes a transfer student under her wing. Between making over her friends and trying to play matchmaker for her teachers, Cher finds herself increasingly unlucky in love – only to find it much closer to home than she would have thought. Brittany Murphy, Paul Rudd, and Donald Faison also star.
