Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan alum Cesar Millan became famous for his connection with canines – he helped their humans to understand what they wanted, and it’s time to talk about what he’s done since the series ended. Cesar first immigrated to the United States in 1990. He started grooming canines and became known for trimming and shaving pooches that didn’t want the treatments. Many YouTube channels reveal that some dogs aren’t fond of sitting still as electric razors move across their matted fur. However, Cesar kept the pets calm. People took notice, and soon after, he had his own show.
Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan ran from 2004 to 2021 and got an Emmy nomination. As per TV Guide, season 10 featured only two episodes. When the series ended, Cesar continued to be a celebrity presence despite personal stressors, including financial losses. While there won’t be another season this year (2024), Dog Whisperer remains a great series. Cesar’s unique ability to connect with animals seems almost magical, but it’s all based on understanding the differences between dogs and human beings.

Cesar Millan Got Engaged After Dog Whisperer
His Fiancee’s Name Is Jahira Dar
In 2010, his wife Ilusión Wilson decided to divorce Cesar. He and Ilusión had been together since 1994 – when he found out what she was planning, it led to a suicide attempt. His kids found him and got him the help that he needed. The same year, Cesar started dating Jahira Dar, who assisted him with his recovery. He proposed to her in 2016. See Cesar discuss love and marriage in the clip above.
Cesar also founded the Dog Psychology Center – he eventually relocated that business from Los Angeles to Santa Clarita. Cesar has worked at the Center since his show ended. The series was different in a good way, and Cesar’s uncanny ability to calm even the wildest pets is fascinating – now, he continues to use his knowledge to help dog owners. Cesar shares pet training advice on Instagram.
Cesar and Jahira dated for six years before Cesar popped the question. However, they don’t seem to have tied the knot yet. Cesar has been posting on Instagram, but he hasn’t really been adding content related to Jahira. They may quietly be engaged – they might even be married. Another possible scenario is that they’re not together anymore.
One wrenching fact about Cesar’s prior relationship with Ilusión, who’s now his ex-wife, was the fact that his beloved dog Daddy passed away just as his wife decided to bail out on their marriage. For a dog lover like Cesar, the death of Daddy must have been heartbreaking. When Ilusión said she was leaving, it may have seemed like it was all too much. Luckily, the acutely sensitive dog whisperer survived. The world needs more people who use their positive energy and skills to help others.

Cesar Millan Is Open & Honest
Animal Planet has many shows depicting humans working to improve the bonds between owners and pets. However, Cesar is still the first person who comes to mind when thinking about that genre. In Cesar‘s Instagram post, as shown above, he promotes Better Human, Better Dog season 3, advising a stressed-out female dog owner to:
establish rules, so they know what is and what is not allowed.
Few animal trainer celebrities have as much of an impact on television. The closest may be Jackson Galaxy, a.k.a. the Cat Daddy. He hosts My Cat From Hell, which is about helping cat owners understand their felines and improve their behavior. Galaxy also highlights the cats that are perfect matches for their humans, showing how vital understanding can be when influencing a feline’s temperament.
Cesar’s TV show, Cesar’s Way, premiered in August 2021, according to National Geographic, and focused on those adopting dogs. He’s built quite a career and positively impacted the television world. The official description, via the network, says that the series, “showcases Cesar Millan as he takes on the most challenging cases yet, treating a host of new canine behavioral issues impacted by well-intentioned but impulsive owners.”
Cesar deserves happiness for helping dogs and their owners to see eye-to-eye.
Cesar Millan Also Starred In Cesar 911
Cesar Millan Helps Pet Owners To Cope
Cesar gave his community a helping hand with another exciting spin-off, Cesar 911. That The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan offshoot launched in 2015 and aired three installments. In season 3, episode 1, a famous comedian got help with his pooch. Jerry Seinfeld appeared in “The Seinfeld Episode,” where Cesar worked his magic by helping the funny man to control his dachshunds. In another episode from the last installment, Cesar assisted a dog owner whose noisy Sheltie wouldn’t stop barking at household appliances.
Cesar 911 was more in the same vein, and while it was entertaining, the series only lasted for a few years. Amid the airing of the series, Cesar needed to deal with complaints that he wasn’t treating animals well. Since his activities with canines are such a big part of his life, that scandal definitely cast a long shadow. As per Reuters, Cesar was actually called out over his treatment of a pig rather than a dog. The pig was being used as a dog training “tool” during the filming of Cesar 911.
Cesar allegedly mistreated the pig by using it to bait a pooch, and there was bad press when a Change.org petition was created by angry Cesar 911 viewers. They believed that Cesar was cruel. Thousands of people signed the petition, and Cesar actually agreed with his critics. He said the pig was used as bait. However, he added that the pig and dog began to get along well, arguing that his training methods were for the greater good. According to the National Humane Society, what Cesar did to the pig was:

Cesar Millan’s Pet Whispering Gifts Are Special
In the Instagram post above, Cesar showed off two cute pooches as they ran on a treadmill. Putting dogs on these types of exercise machines is one thing that the “dog whisperer” is known for. In the post, the canines are on leashes but appear to be enjoying their activity. Hopefully, Cesar knows exactly how much running is enough for the pets, since they’re stuck on the treadmill until he stops the machine and unleashes them.
In his most recent IG post, which he added on May 8, 2024, Cesar defended his dog training methods again. He believes that pet owners can’t control packs without dominant attitudes. He does have a gift for controlling canines, but some people consider his methods too extreme. Cesar said:
As the Pack Leaders, we must give direction in a calm assertive state to our dogs.
There are different schools of thought about dog training. Some people believe in crueler methods, such as choke chains, while others prefer a gentler approach. Cesar understands that any complaints about his treatment of animals need to be followed up on by authorities. That’s why he didn’t get too heated when his previously mentioned treatment of the pig featured on Cesar 911 made headlines. He believes in the system as it’s designed to protect animals. He seemed to consider the process of authorities following up on that complaint to be a formality.
Cesar will always get shade from some fans, but he has many devotees. Right now, on Instagram, Cesar has 2.4 million followers and plenty of them appreciate what he does. In the recent post shown above, one follower gushed, calling him a “gift to the world.”
Cesar Millan Has Millions Of TikTok Followers
In 2024, He Has 3.3 Million TikTok Followers
Cesar has built a sizable TikTok following since he joined the popular social media platform. While he’s been called out for how he trains animals, 3.3 million people follow Cesar at TikTok. Since he’s a powerful influencer, and many of the comments he gets are positive, it’s clear that a lot of people believe in his methods. In the TikTok above, he helps dog owners to understand the difference between “insecure” and “aggressive” pooches. One fan commented:
Its amazing how you change dog the way you do.
Cesar believes that many pet owners don’t understand dog psychology. They think of their pets as having human thoughts and reactions. However, human beings are far more complex. While canines can be extremely intelligent, they are still animals – they need to be treated as such. They should be understood as dogs, not furry versions of human beings. He feels that humanizing canines is a mistake, and an error that leads to frustration. He’s said onscreen:
They expect the dog to rationalize. We are the only species that has a choice. And our choice we can choose to do the wrong things, and in the animal world they only choose to do the right thing,
To be a pack leader, a pet owner must take control as Cesar does, and this can take some getting used to. However, it’s easy to learn from the master, at TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and more. Better Human Better Dog season 5 premieres on National Geographic on August 16. There’s a perennial interest in what Cesar does, and his skills and passion for dog training have powered a long and successful career.
