Australia cricket team will embark on a new era following David Warner’s retirement from all formats of the game. The southpaw, who had earlier called time on his Test and ODI career, hung up his boots from T20Is as well following Australia’s exit from the World Cup. This means Australia will play their first-ever tour without Warner when they take on Scotland.

No David Warner, no problem: Australia skipper

Speaking to reporters ahead of the 1st match, Australia T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh claimed that the team wasn’t exactly being ‘reset’. Rather, he called it an opportunity for youngsters to make their way into the side and cement their positions. He admitted that while the experience factor was missing in the team, the players had to come together to function as a well-oiled unit.

“I don’t think it’s a reset. I think there’s certainly opportunity for guys to come in and get their opportunity, but I wouldn’t say it’s a reset,” Marsh said.

The T20I skipper lavished praise on now-retired Warner, noting that he will always be missed by Australia. He credited the fiery southpaw for taking up challanges against Australia across formats, adding that he was on of the best to do so.

“Davey was obviously one of our best to ever do it and he always bought so much experience and no matter who he played against, he was always up for the challenge playing cricket for Australia,” he said.

What’s next for David Warner?

David Warner is all set to return to action, this time in the Big Bash League (BBL). The Sydney Thunder have confirmed the southpaw’s commitment to the franchise for the upcoming season. This will be the first time Warner will play the entire league.

In total, the explosive opener has made 8 appearances for the franchise, scoring 149 runs at an average of 21.28. This would mean David Warner will skip the next edition of ILT20 as he confirms to play the entire BBL.
