Power Rangers In Order: How To Watch Every Series Chronologically & By Release Date

How to watch every Power Rangers show in order is a tricky question, as the franchise deals with alternate universes and has a complicated timeline. Getting into Power Rangers 30 years after Mighty Morphin Power Rangers may seem difficult, namely due to how many Power Rangers teams there are. Power Rangers’ TV canon consists of 973 episodes. However, despite the significant amount of Power Rangers content released since 1993, catching up with Power Rangers is not as difficult as it sounds.

From classic Power Rangers shows set in the Zordon Era to recent releases like Power Rangers: Beast Morphers and Power Rangers Dino Fury, Power Rangers has been a generational franchise. For example, some only watched Mighty Morphin and will forever see characters like Red Ranger Jason Lee Scott and Green Ranger Tommy Oliver as their definitive Power Rangers. Others may have discovered Power Rangers in the 2000s, with seasons like Power Rangers S.P.D. or Power Rangers Mystic Force. The Power Rangers franchise offers many “starting points,” whether someone plans to watch it chronologically or by release date.

How To Watch Power Rangers In Chronological Order

Start With Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers – a team of teens is first picked to defend the planet
  • Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers – alien beings take over when the original teens are out of commission

  • Power Rangers Cosmic Fury – the DIno Fury Rangers end up in space
  • Power Rangers S.P.D. – Rangers with special powers are law enforcement
  • Power Rangers Time Force – these Rangers come from the year 3000 to the past
  • Power Rangers HyperForce – these Rangers are actually part of a role playing game

Power Rangers Time Force
is listed twice because parts of the show take place in the past and the future.

Power Rangers’ chronological order is similar to the release date order, but some important differences must be noted. Firstly, not every Power Rangers release is canon to the TV shows. For example, neither Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) nor the 2017 Power Rangers film are part of the TV show’s canon.

In addition, four canon Power Rangers shows do not take place in the main Power Rangers timeline and instead exist in another universe. Those are R.P.M., Dino Charge, Super Dino Charge, and HyperForce, the last of which is a roleplaying campaign released as a web series. Lastly, S.P.D. and Time Force take place in the future.

It All Still Starts With Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, Power Rangers (2017), and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993-1996)
  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995)
  • Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers (1996)
  • Power Rangers Zeo (1996)
  • Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997)
  • Power Rangers Turbo (1997-1998)
  • Power Rangers in Space (1998-1999)
  • Power Rangers Lost Galaxy (1999-2000)
  • Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue (2000-2001)
  • Power Rangers Time Force (2001)
  • Power Rangers Wild Force (2002-2003)
  • Power Rangers Ninja Storm (2003-2004)
  • Power Rangers Dino Thunder (2004)
  • Power Rangers S.P.D. (2005)
  • Power Rangers Mystic Force (2006)
  • Power Rangers Operation Overdrive (2007)
  • Power Rangers Jungle Fury (2008)
  • Power Rangers R.P.M. (2009)
  • Power Rangers Samurai (2011)
  • Power Rangers Super Samurai (2012)
  • Power Ranger Megaforce (2013)
  • Power Rangers Super Megaforce (2014)
  • Power Rangers Dino Charge (2015)
  • Power Rangers Dino Super Charge (2016)
  • Power Rangers Ninja Steel (2017)
  • Power Rangers (2017)
  • Power Rangers HyperForce (2017)
  • Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel (2018)
  • Power Rangers: Beast Morphers (2019)
  • Power Rangers Dino Fury (2021-2022)
  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always (2023)
  • Power Rangers Cosmic Fury (2023)

The biggest difference between watching Power Rangers chronologically and by release date order is the placement of Power Rangers S.P.D., Power Rangers Time Force, and Power Rangers HyperForce. For example, S.P.D. was released in 2005, yet the show takes place in the year 2025. Likewise, Time Force was released in 2001 but introduces a team of time traveler Rangers from the year 3000.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and Power Rangers (2017) are not canon to the TV shows, not even to the TV show’s multiverse. Power Rangers: Once & Always is an hour-long special and not a series, but it is canon to the TV shows. It returns most of the original Power Rangers team to the franchise in the present day, allowing the audience to see what those characters are up to 30 years later.

The Best Order To Watch Power Rangers

Release Date Order Works Best

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' Green Ranger Tommy and Dino Thunder's White Ranger Trent

The best way to watch Power Rangers is by release date order, as it allows the viewer to follow how the franchise evolved throughout 30 years of history. Every era of Power Rangers has a unique feel to it, especially considering the behind-the-scenes element of each season. For example, every Power Rangers TV show released under Disney gives the Rangers superpowers even when they are not morphed. Likewise, every Power Rangers season between Samurai and Dino Fury used “Go, go, Power Rangers in the intro,” which is something that previous seasons would not necessarily do.

It must also be considered that, after Zordon died in Power Rangers in Space, Power Rangers left the Zordon Era behind. From then on, each Power Rangers season was released as a standalone story that did not require viewers to have watched all previous series. Watching Power Rangers Turbo without having watched Mighty Morphin and Zeo would be quite confusing, as most Rangers and villains had been introduced in the previous shows.

This changed with Power Rangers Lost Galaxy which, despite its In Space connections, introduces a brand new set of characters. Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, and every other series since then have followed this same formula. Apart from the usual crossover episodes, such as Lightspeed Rescue’s “Trakina’s Revenge” or Wild Force’s “Reinforcements from the Future,” every Power Rangers season from 1999 onward stands on its own. As a result, watching a random Power Rangers series without any context from the other shows can work, as long as this series was released after Power Rangers in Space.

Watching Power Rangers chronologically makes for an interesting experience, but leaving Time Force and S.P.D. at the end of the list leads to some problems. Viewers would be spoiled about key elements of Time Force in Wild Force. In addition, Power Rangers Operation Overdrive’s “Once A Ranger” crossover features major Power Rangers S.P.D. spoilers that will affect the experience of someone who has yet to watch the 2006 series. Therefore, despite their placement in the Power Rangers timeline, both Time Force and S.P.D. work better if watched in the order they were released.

This is why watching Power Rangers by release date order is the better approach. Of course, jumping right into any Power Rangers season from 1999 onward without worrying about continuity is completely fine, as the standalone aspect of the post-Zordon Era eases any potential timeline issues.

The Best Watch Order For New Fans

Most long-time Power Rangers fans will agree that if someone is looking to start watching the franchise – and wants to watch the entire thing – they should likely start at the beginning and watch the Zordon Era of the show, which flows from one season to the next first. That’s not necessarily true, especially if someone wants to see if they’re interested in watching the whole thing. The Zordon Era is a very long arc to commit to as a first binge-watch.

The Zordon Era

Release Years

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

1993-1996

Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers

1996

Power Rangers Zeo

1996

Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie

1997

Power Rangers Turbo

1997-1998

Power Rangers in Space

1998-1999

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy

1999-2000

Instead, new fans could start with a standalone season as a way to get used to the monster-of-the-week format with its overarching story. A standalone season is a good way for fans to understand the tropes inherent to the franchise and understand just what they’re getting into. A good pick to start is Power Rangers Time Force. Because the series pulls from the future of the franchise and sends Rangers to the past, it’s not a bad season to watch out of order.

Starting with Time Force, then watching the full Zordon Era arc makes for a good foundation for the series. Then, as something completely different for fans who have been watching the trajectory of the same characters for several seasons, seasons like Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue and Power Rangers RPM make for two very different sides of the Power Rangers coin to follow up with.

From there, fans can continue largely in release order so that crossovers and callbacks in the show still make sense for them. It’s also not strictly necessary to watch Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie or the 2017 reboot movie alongside the series unless they want a full picture of the Power Rangers multiverse. If those are included, it would make sense to watch them near the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers seasons since it’s those characters that are featured, though in two very different iterations.

  • Power Rangers Time Force (2001)
  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993-1996)
  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995)
  • Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers (1996)
  • Power Rangers Zeo (1996)
  • Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997)
  • Power Rangers Turbo (1997-1998)
  • Power Rangers in Space (1998-1999)
  • Power Rangers Lost Galaxy (1999-2000)
  • Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue (2000-2001)
  • Power Rangers R.P.M. (2009)
  • Power Rangers Wild Force (2002-2003)
  • Power Rangers Ninja Storm (2003-2004)
  • Power Rangers Dino Thunder (2004)
  • Power Rangers S.P.D. (2005)
  • Power Rangers Mystic Force (2006)
  • Power Rangers Operation Overdrive (2007)
  • Power Rangers Jungle Fury (2008)
  • Power Rangers Samurai (2011)
  • Power Rangers Super Samurai (2012)
  • Power Ranger Megaforce (2013)
  • Power Rangers Super Megaforce (2014)
  • Power Rangers Dino Charge (2015)
  • Power Rangers Dino Super Charge (2016)
  • Power Rangers Ninja Steel (2017)
  • Power Rangers (2017)
  • Power Rangers HyperForce (2017)
  • Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel (2018)
  • Power Rangers: Beast Morphers (2019)
  • Power Rangers Dino Fury (2021-2022)
  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always (2023)
  • Power Rangers Cosmic Fury (2023)

The final series watched should be Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury. Though there are shows that take place after it in the chronological timeline, it makes the most sense to end there because it brings the franchise full circle, back to its Mighty Morphin Power Rangers roots, and works as a logical endpoint for the franchise. Any coming Power Rangers series or movies are intended to reboot the franchise again.

How The Power Rangers Movies Fit In The Timeline

There Is Only One Canon Power Rangers Movie

How to watch the Power Rangers movies in order can be confusing, as not every Power Rangers film is canon. For example, despite featuring the same cast as the TV show, the 1995 Power Rangers movie is not canon. In theory, Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) should take place somewhere during Mighty Morphin Power Rangers season 3. However, the first theatrical Power Rangers movie contradicts the TV series in many ways. Similarly, Mighty Morphin season 3 contradicted the events of the movie, namely with a completely different introduction to the Power Rangers’ Animal Spirit powers.

As such, while Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is a fun adventure featuring the Mighty Morphin characters, it must be considered as its own thing rather than part of the TV show. Fans consider it an alternate timeline of events.

This is not the case for Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997), which is the only canon Power Rangers film. In fact, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie is a must-watch film going into Power Rangers Turbo. The movie covered the transition between Zeo to Turbo, introducing the Power Rangers’ new costumes and Zords.

Lastly, Power Rangers (2017) is a reboot of the original Power Rangers series, with new actors playing the classic characters. It was intended to start a new era for Lionsgate with the characters on the big screen, but those plans were scrapped after the first movie.

Where To Stream Each Power Rangers Series

The Most Recent Releases Are Available To Stream On Netflix

For a long time, Netflix was the official streaming home of all of the Power Rangers series. That’s no longer the case. Only a handful of seasons of the franchise are available to stream on Netflix now:

  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
  • Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel
  • Power Rangers Beast Morphers
  • Power Rangers Dino Fury
  • Power Rangers Cosmic Fury

The special anniversary presentation, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once And Always, was made exclusively for Netflix, much like Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, so it is also available to stream on Netflix. The other seasons of the Power Rangers franchise are no longer available to stream from a subscription service. However, they are available to purchase through digital retailers like Amazon and can be watched on Power Rangers‘ official YouTube channel.

While the 2017 reboot is available through both Fubo and MGM+, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is unavailable to stream or available on any digital rental platforms. Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, however, can be found on most digital platforms to rent, like AppleTV+, Vudu, and Google Play. To watch the entire franchise would require a lot of different streaming services and digital platforms for Power Rangers fans.

Power Rangers

Power Rangers is a long-running multimedia franchise that debuted in 1993 with the TV series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Created by Haim Saban and adapted from the Japanese Super Sentai series, Power Rangers became a cultural phenomenon by combining action-packed footage from Super Sentai with new scenes featuring American actors. The franchise follows teams of young heroes who transform into Power Rangers to battle various villains, using martial arts, special powers, and giant mechas called Zords. Over the decades, the franchise has expanded into multiple TV series, films, comics, video games, and merchandise, becoming one of the most successful children’s franchises in the world.
