Iran’s Foreign Minister has stated that protesters will not be executed, following a de-escalation in rhetoric from US President Trump.
China Opposes the ‘Use or Threat of Force’ in International Relations
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, expressed Beijing’s opposition to countries using threats to resolve disputes.
According to a readout from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Yi stated that China “opposes the use or threat of force in international relations and opposes countries imposing their own will on others.”
Wang Yi added that Beijing is “willing to play a constructive role” in resolving the current crisis. This follows recent US threats of potential military action against Iran, which were made in response to Tehran’s crackdown on anti-government protests.
