Israeli PM Netanyahu Joins Gaza ‘Board of Peace’ Despite ICC Arrest Warrant
Despite an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged war crimes in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accepted an invitation from former U.S. President Donald Trump to join the newly formed “Board of Peace,” raising serious questions about the body’s credibility and neutrality.
Netanyahu’s office confirmed on Wednesday via social media that he would take part in the initiative, even as the ICC continues to seek his arrest over accusations linked to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

The “Board of Peace” was unveiled as part of the second phase of a ceasefire framework with Hamas. According to Trump, the board is intended to oversee Gaza’s post-war future, including governance capacity-building, regional relations, reconstruction efforts, investment promotion, large-scale funding, and capital inflows.
However, Netanyahu’s inclusion has sparked widespread concern, with critics arguing that the participation of a leader accused of war crimes fundamentally undermines the board’s impartiality. These concerns are further amplified by the fact that Trump is expected to retain full control over the board’s leadership and member selection.

Netanyahu’s decision to join comes despite earlier objections from his office regarding the formation of the board’s executive committee, which reportedly included Israel’s regional rival, Türkiye. At the time, Netanyahu’s office said the committee was formed without consultation with the Israeli government and contradicted Israeli policy, though no further details were provided.

Other ICC-Accused Leaders Invited
Netanyahu is not the only leader facing ICC charges to be invited. Russian President Vladimir Putin—already indicted over alleged war crimes related to Russia’s nearly four-year war in Ukraine—was also reportedly invited earlier this week.
The Kremlin stated that it seeks clarification from Washington on “all aspects” of the proposal, while stopping short of confirming whether Putin would accept the invitation.
Reports also suggest that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, a close ally of Moscow, has received a similar invitation from Trump.

Internal Israeli Criticism
Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has openly criticized the board, calling instead for Israel to take unilateral control over Gaza’s future rather than delegating authority to an international body.
Board Composition
Countries reportedly represented or invited to the board include the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Vietnam, Belarus, Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Argentina. Other entities, including the United Kingdom and the European Union’s executive arm, have confirmed receiving invitations but said they have not yet responded.
It remains unclear how many additional leaders or countries may ultimately be invited.
