Trump clarifies plans for Venezuela, threatens other countries ahead of Maduro’s court appearance
Venezuela’s future: The Trump administration is working to establish a compliant (obedient/loyal) interim government in Venezuela after the arrest of Nicolás Maduro. Delcy Rodríguez assumed the role of interim president (acting president) of Venezuela immediately after appealing for “cooperation” with the United States—a clear shift from her previous hardline stance against US aggression (attack).
Trump’s threats: President Donald Trump hinted (suggested) that he could take military action in Colombia, told Mexico to “correct its attitude” on the drug issue, and also stated that the US “needs Greenland.”
Oil companies: US officials have attempted to gauge interest (assess interest) in the return of US oil companies to Venezuela, as the president says he is relying on them for the restoration (revival) of the industry. However, sources indicate that the companies are not confident about reinvesting.
Casualties in the attack: Cuba says at least 32 of its citizens were killed during the US military operation in Venezuela.
